Resources to Learn How to Get Flights Using Points?

Hi all,

Every now and then, I read about people who are using credit card/frequent flyer/etc points to get free flights or upgrades. I really feel like I'm missing out so would love to learn how to do it.

Every time I try to research it, I only find sites from people selling their systems - but I have no idea how credible they are.

So can anyone recommend a reputable place to start learning how to do this?

Thanks!

MUN.

Incredible resource. Friendly people always happy to help, but you need to make the effort to do lots of back reading first. Don't just post saying 'Hi I'm new to this can someone please explain everything.'

Warning, it'll take you weeks/months of reading threads in there before you get your head around how everything works and where you specifically might find the best value. If it were easy and quick, everyone would be doing it.

    • Thanks Glider, I'll start with my back reading this week 😄

    • +1 to this, my go to site for everything points related. Good bunch of people and a great resource if you are willing to put in the time. If there is anything specific you need to know just ask.

www.pointhacks.com.au is also a good resource for beginners. I used to write for them so feel free to PM me with any broad questions as well.

Read read read and then read some more on AFF. Info is all out there… Just gotta become a sponge and work out what system(s) work for you with availability.

Points hack, AFF, Australian Business traveller…

You just gotta get lucky with dates for frequent seats.

    get free flights

Just so you are aware… The flights ARE NOT free per say. You still need to pay taxes and airport fees I think one of the sites mentioned above had an article on that. You can get incredible deals like a return ticket to San Fran in business for about $700 (economy is about $450)

  • Thanks for all the advice everyone! I look forward to rewarding myself with a free (plus costs!) flight to somewhere exciting 😄

Currently on our honeymoon, in France, but returning in 2 days. We're here on points, paid about $900 each in taxes and fees, flying business class all the way.

It is possible you need to plan well ahead though!

    • That's impressive! How did you learn how to do it?

      • AFF, Australian Business Traveller, Australian Frequent Flyer, reading on OzB, planning scheming, googling!

8 hours till we go to the airport now for our return flight!

Been using AFF for years and learnt the ropes on using FF points to travel, best tip is do not commence in OZ depart out of HKG or SIN for next to nothing fees above award points on OneWorld Airlines.
