SSD, - Windows 10 Clean Install Vs Cloning Hdd.?

Got a new wd green 480 (thanks ozbargain). Preparing to install, bracket and data cable arriving shortly. Fresh install vs clone?
Does it really make much difference with SSD. Cloning seems a lot easier.

  • Got a wd 240 couple of weeks ago, just cloned it and all was good. Unless you think you have viruses or something is slowing your computer down cloning is fine.

  • Have done both ways. IMO although people say fresh install is better as things are quicker. I don't feel it is worth the effort.
You can always go back and do fresh install if you think clone is too slow or any other problems. (Although I expect cloning to be fine)

  • If its from an HDD, clean install.
If SSD to SSD, go clone.

    • What's the difference there?

  • Recently upgraded two aging laptops to SSD.

    Used https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

The second PC I did I swapped to a smaller SSD so resized partitions using Macrium and it went well.
No instructions as such, just frigged around until I made it work.

Both laptops running fine. I have a third to do and it will be cloned as well.

**had to buy a USB to SATA (i think) cable from ebay.

  • I always go clean, but I backup my C:\Users folder and restore that on the other end.
That way I keep basically everything the same except installed applications.
