Recommendation for Food in Melbourne Open Late

Hi all.

My company sent me to Melbourne for roughly a week and I just finish working now (20:30PM).
I was wondering does any of you guys have any recommendation for a restaurant in Melbourne that still open late night?

Thank you All.

PS. for the next 4 days I might finish work around this time so more than one suggestion is very much welcome :)

  • Thanks. Oh and if it's possible don't go over $65 budget (company rules)

Chinatown. You’ll spend $10-$20 for one person. They’re open late (easily til 10-11 on a weeknight).

If you want to mix up the cuisine, try grand trailer park (burgers). They’ll be open til 10. Also $20.

Lots of ramen places around. Heaps of pubs. All should be less than $30 per person.

Where is your office located? Or the hotel you are staying in? Then I can suggest places near to you.

Shujinko on Russell St is open 24/7

I'll second this, but be prepared for a wait even if it's 2am on a Tuesday.

If the OP is by himself, he'd be able to get in faster and eat at the bar area. I haven't had to wait due to eating solo and got a seat immediately (but it wasn't at 2 a.m.)

There is one next to a bar called Troika.
You can eat the chicken at the bar, which is awesome!

Go sit at the bar at Supernormal (open til 11pm) and order a lobster roll. Delicious. They'll also do half serves if you dine solo. Try the pan fried beef cheek bun. It's amazing too.

Stalactites is great for late gyros / souvlaki. Open 24 hours and super cheap. They also do nice salads.

brunswick st has some good eats.

Nyala is open until 11:00 pm. In Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Great African place but you might want to ring to find out when the kitchen closes.

Chin Chin is quite good. It has Asian fusion food, and I particularly enjoy their use of kaffir lime leaves

Chin chin is great but you want to watch the queues. A lone person should be OK as they will put you at the bar.

Pho Dzung City Noodle shop does a good Pho and is quite cheap; in Russel St.

Bistro Sou Sou in Gertrude St Fitzroy does an amazing Boeuf Bourguignon and good house red. Wednesday to Sunday.

Naked for Satan, and Naked in the Sky in Brunswick are also very good. The view from Naked in the Sky is lovely at night and the food is very tasty.

    Maccas :D 24hrs

    • Best to avoid the one on Elizabeth St late in the evening though. There are quite often some questionable people yelling unintelligible nonsense near that one.

Heaps of places in Melbourne and well within budget. Most restaurants don't close until 11 so eating at 8:30 is their second sitting.. Most kitchens close at 9/9:30. Your profile says you're from Perth so from what I know there isn't a lot of choices there. Well not as much as Melbourne.

Personally what I'd do for the next 4 nights is mix it up. Go for Italian, Chinese, Indian, and a pub meal. Melbourne has some of the best food in the world and you have a pretty nice budget for 1 person.

    Some of my favourites are…

    Valpinos

    Chin Chin

    Cookie

    Betty's burgers

    400º Gradi

    Tippo00

    Meatball and Wine Co

It really depends what you like.

You could even head to Rockpool and get a decent meal for that amount. Maybe eat at the bar, get the burger and have a glass of nice red(assuming you are allowed to drink on the company dime). Or you could probably just about get a steak.

What are your likes and dislikes for food? Things they don't have in Perth?

https://izakayachuji.com/ - either eat in the restaurant or eat at the bar adjoining

It would be helpful to know where OP works and where they are staying. Finishing work at 8:30 - might not be up for a trip across the city (even on the free trams).

Plenty of good suggestions from others, but also try:

    Garcon Paris Steakhouse, Alfred Place

Great steak, easy to stay on budget, and extremely friendly staff.

  • Stalactites

  • This isn't Canberra. Pretty much all places open for dinner will be open until at least 10pm and the kitchen will be open well after 9. When you meant late night recommendations I thought you meant 2am!
Just go to Zomato, and look at the most popular list. Aim for places above 4.0. Choose the cuisine that interests you and is nearby. You'll be just fine in Melbourne. $65 for one meal is plenty if you don't go crazy with the drinks.

Urgh, having horrible flashbacks to arriving at Dickson's most popular noodle house to be told "KITCHEN CLOSED AT 8.30PM" on a FRIDAY NIGHT! Bah!
