PayPal Forcing Insecurity on It's Users

Paypal has started forcing me to change passwords every month or so. This is more insecure than not changing your password if you are not using a password manager.

Are they doing this to anyone else?

Doesn't and has never done it before for me, so not sure if something is up? I've had the same password for quite a while, I think they only got me to change it once. Maybe something is happening on your account (multiple login attempts from dodgy people who don't know or are guessing your pass, or maybe you're on a dynamic IP which is raising flags from IP changes?)

Overall though I do hate places that force monthly changes for no reason, its too difficult for me to make up and remember a password every month that has a number, capital letter, lower case letter, 8 characters, symbol, not a prev password, include your blood type, references the moon alignment etc

My pass ends up turning from <password> to <password_1, password_2> or <password_Jan, password_Feb> I question whether it really is secure when I end up using crappy passwords because its the only way I can remember them and still login.

Still though, I just use a password manager now, much easier and I just remember the pass for sites I log into often (or use my phone to find the pass). Will be an issue if the password manager ever gets hacked though (and all my passwords are available to anyone if they steal my laptop/phone).

Been using Paypal over 10 years, never been asked to change password.

  • PayPal told me that my food purchase is highly indicative of my amorphous physique. :(

change passwords every month or so.

Changing passwords every few months or weeks is good cyber security. Having different passwords for different logins is also a good practice.

Best not to criticize them then. Can only make things worse.

Oh no but if you vote lib/lab something something something…

      • You'll be changing your password every week!

Theyre only doing this to liberal and labour voters.

He's anti lib/lab so I think he's actually a Greenie. Or perhaps Katter?

calling Diji1 a greenie would be an insult to rational, well-meaning, 'clear' thinking Greenies
he has a heavy streak of tin foil paranoia

        • take a piss on greenies, a neg
          compliment a greenie, a neg

          I dont understand greenies lol

i have to reset my paypal password every time I use it, Who remembers passwords

  • It's based on the number of Ozbargain posts made……weekly then daily changes are coming your way, sorry to say.

  • I got it a few months ago, they said I was using it on to many devices.. like WTAF.. Phone, Work Desktop and Home Desktop.. I could log in at home fine, but if I used it at work it prompted I change my password. Its good to update passwords, but surely they could have messaged my phone and verified who I was.

  • How many devices are you on and are you using a changing ip/vpn

    • this.
Its prob because Paypal sees you as a problem user/risky
worst thing Paypal ever did was ask me for SMS verification for gift card purchases

I didn't scroll far enough to see the /s. I got a headache trying to do the acrobatics. Thanks.

  • Are you sure it’s paypal and not “paypal” asking you to do this?
The amount of phishing emails I get from “intl.paypal” telling me I need to change my p/w is ridiculous.

Hmm, interesting, I wonder why they're forcing password changes onto me and no one else according to poll. Maybe they're testing it or something.
