Does Anyone Know What This Mystery Clip on My Crumpler Bag Is for?

Not sure if this belongs here or in travel.

See photos - i have two of these mysterious clips on either side of my backpack. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious that goes into them. I'm wondering what the point of these are.

Anyone want to take some guesses?

You can get additional straps that go around your waist to distribute heavy load when hiking.

    Example: http://zpacks.com/backpacks/arc_haul_zip.shtml

    Specifically: http://zpacks.com/images/backpacks/arc_haul_zip/haul_belt_de...

Can also probably be used to attach a compact sleeping bag or other item underneath.

    hip belt mount points

Oh, that makes a lot of sense! I'm like 99% sure the bag never came with a hip belt… but it's an old bag, maybe Crumpler used to sell that as an accessory / add on.

Thanks guys, I didn't think of that at all.

I've got the same clips on a katmandu day pack

I don't know about Crumpler, but for Kathmandu, those tabs are for attaching your day pack onto larger Kathmandu backpacks.

Yeah, that's the hipbelt attachments (whether it came with any or not)
