Mobile Phone Recommendations < $500, 6GB with Headphone Jack

Hi all,

Looking for a phone for basic communication and administrating of life. Previous phone was a oppo R9, but I screwed the ear-side-speaker when replacing the screen. I found that it was snappy enough but too big with a buggy OS. Some quite good deals out there but still can't find a specific one that fits my needs.

Deal breakers = Android, Headphone jack, good battery life and no shitty bloatware.

Preferred to have (in order of preference).
6gb - I just need the phone to be very snappy, calls, text, whatsapp, email and basic web browsing. No games, minimal social media.
<6 inch - Big phones are just so clunky, I'd drop it on my face when browsing in bed
B28 - I heard good things about this, based in regional areas and I can feel the 4g slowing down indoors.
Good warranty/support - who am I kidding again, but great to have no?

Prepared to sacrifice = Camera quality (who am I kidding, if I can give up 2/3 Cameras for $100 in savings or +1gb in ram or a reduction in size I'd gladly do it.

I would have jumped onto the Xiaomi mix 2 but alas, there is no headphone jack.

Help me out here.

Also wondering if you guys have had any experience with Tobydeals as a seller?

Thanks so much!

  • 6gb is really limiting options. Are you sure 4gb won't cut it?

    • Sure, as long as its snappy!

I don't even mind a 2gb phone that is snappy with my internet messaging devices, gmail, mobile banking and internet browser.

Without trying a phone, I've learnt that setting the bar high to start might (maybe) make things easier for me.

  • Pocophone F1 sounds like it would fit what you want.

    • No B28 no nfc

      • +1

I've short listed the pocophone, I do not care about the nfc.

I'm weighing up B28 vs 6gb of ram.

Maybe somebody can chime in for that.

        • +2

I'm on a no B28 china phone and occasionally drop to 3g even in populated areas (some indoor areas where I used to get 4g). I'd personally take B28 and 4g.

  • +1

    nokia 7 plus

no 6gb option (unless you get the chinese version with no updates)
but it has 4gb and a very fast cpu, its a great little phone.

good camera, long battery life, headphone jack, fast updates, band 28, great support (the app even has live chat, and you can get it for a reasonable price locally).

I'm a super heavy user (100 tabs, multiple apps, picture in picture, etc) and it's never skipped a beat.

    • I've heard good things about this.

Maybe I can drop my requirement for <6 inch.

Might look in jb hi fi sometime or wait for a deal to pop up.

    • Both phones are too big unfortunately and I'm not going back to OPPO.

My last phone, it could not even alert me when the phone rang or received an sms. They wanted me to reset to factory before I could claim warranty and the phone did not allow me to replace the dialer with a 3rd party app. I could not reset to factory or root the phone because of my authenticators.
