Contact & Targeted Discount after Adding/Removing from Cart?

I was looking around for a nice set of over-ear bluetooth headphones, and kept seeing mentions of Audeara and their supposedly-schmick set. I had some money from my tax return coming, so I added them to my cart, got all the way to almost finalising the transaction, and ended up bailing on the $500 price. Removed it from my cart and thought I'd keep looking for a price that I didn't balk so much at.

A couple of days later I get an email from their sales rep with a not-too-shabby discount - enough to sway me to pick them up at that price. Obviously the first thought was "Kinda glad I didn't pay full price", although even at full price I must admit I would've been happy with what I got. Trying to avoid turning this into a headphone review, though… so to the question:

Have you had any random occurrences of this happening, or know of any other stores that do it? I assume being a bit more of a startup that they were doing a bit more cart monitoring than the average store, but this wasn't something I'd experienced before.

PS I did ask if the code was targeted or whether I could share it here. The lovely lady who sent me the discount informed me it was just for me.

    Yeah some stores do that.

  • Good way to take a minute to see if you really wanted it. Bonus if they come back worth an offer. Maybe thats a new thread for a list of these discounts pre full commit sites for Ozbargainers.

Alot offer discounts on subscriptions or first orders. Free delivery is always nice to get.

Yeah put in cart and actuall leave it in there. Then youll also get an email saying - Oh we missed you and you didnt close out your checkout. Heres a 10% additional discount of free delivey if you complete the order. Just all part of closing out the sale. To them you bothered to look and allows them to get the sale. After that youll keep getting further promos.

Most shopify based stores do this. Its something you can use to your advantage if you recognise the system they use :)

  • Kogan used to do this, or maybe for new customers.

Has not happened to me for a while. Now just spam reminder with no incentive.

  • I've noticed on Bing Lee, The Good Guys and New Balance.

Just put it in your cart and leave it for a day or two.
