Jan 9/10 to Japan, Buy Now or Gamble?

Hi Guys, Im organising a trip to Japan in January, have got everything organised bar outgoing flights from Melbourne to Japan (one-way).

I can currently get some flights on Phillipines Airlines for $535 each (including baggage), but thinking I can do better but I've been waiting a while and all specials that have come up are before or after (busy season I guess).

In your opinion, should I wait or am I going to get punished?

I don't know what more you want. If you can afford it now get it? If you want to risk it for some relatively smallish savings then wait? How the (profanity) are we going to help you mate? Are we fortune tellers…

asking for opinion, sorry if i offended you
"if you can afford it now get it?" - hand in your ozbargain membership please

      • lol? You're better off writing some options down on separate pieces of paper, throwing it in a hat and then picking one out at random and going with that than asking people here…absolutely abysmal way to use these forums.

Disagree. Ozbargainers who regularly travel to Japan (or even just overseas) can let OP know if the ticket price they've noted is good or bad, or if the odds are high or low there'll be a few sales between now and their travel date.

This information allows the OP to make a more informed decision, and isn't exactly unreasonable for them to make a post about.

@yolohobo: I disagree. I think you'll find with the available resources in todays modern age that everyone can make an informed decision by themselves. All it does is take some effort…

  • I say buy it now but then g'luck with Phillipines Airline.

    • are they that bad?

      • Reviews are hit and miss.

I just used them these holidays to Japan and they were great.
Its Manila airport which is hit & miss.

That's a quite reasonable price for that time of year. book it.

  • Just to confirm, $535 is one-way?

  • I can currently get some flights on Phillipines Airlines for $535 each

hey, be as detail as possible when asking in forum.
like, return or one way, incl tax? any baggage, meal incl?

    • thanks, ive added some more info

  • Yeah, I did mention I only need outgoing flights, so it's $535 one way each. Feel free to change your votes lol

You can probably get a slightly better price but the issue is most deals tend to be return tickets.

      • yeah, starting to notice that, even the byojet voucher is for return flights only

  • Book it now, but I'd personally choose AirAsia over Phillipines Airlines.

    • fair enough but baggage normally kills any value with airasia

  • Do you know any airline reward points you can use to redeem a flight?

    • used my points to get the return flights, couldnt use them on the outgoing date i wanted :'(

Next time, consider buying return and using points to upgrade to business class. Due to taxes and the one way premium, splitting a flight is less value.

  • May not help you much, but this is an interesting article that sort of relates to your dilemma.

    • thanks for the link, i normally search prices incognito to prevent being charged extra :)

Didnt Jetstar just recently have/still have a very good Japan sale on?

    • They did have a super Tokyo two for one sale a couple of weeks ago.

    • yeah, different times unfortunately

January is peak season. You won't get a sale fare for that time. If you've found a fare you're happy with just buy it. Pricing will only go one way from here. Up.

    • the kind of answer I was looking for, cheers bud

535 is what I paid in June, I'd say buy

  • Dear OP
    This is your call
    Nobody here knows the answer
Do what you think is best.

But as old saying goes…If the price is right then BUY!

    • it's not right lol
