Baby Bath Body Wash or Oil

Hello all! I'm a FTM,My bub is arrived , I'm bit confused about bath oil. Which brand is good QV bath oil or GAIA bath oil? Heard mixed comments of both, any recommendations or advises regarding these products or any other products whatever you're using.

Help will be really appreciated:)

Thanks.

um bath oil would be good during dryer colder months, i would wait and see how your bubs skin reacts before adding anything into the bath.

I would ask your friends for a sample to test and see which one you like. each babies skin is different.

  • I've used both of those (and a bunch of others) and found GAIA to be my favourite due to it's texture and how it was absorbed by the skin. In saying that, I had no problems at all with the cheaper brands. Most of the arguments you will find about the ingredients in cheaper brands are rubbish and not backed by scientific evidence. You are just being guilt-tripped into paying more because they know that as a mother you want the best for your baby. I found a good counter argument to this is to think about the money you save on baby products being an investment in their later education/development.

ah, you're a new parent. well, if you don't use this product then your child will grow up to be a murderer.

seriously , as a parent of 3, don't buy in to the fear.

just careful wash your baby with minimal amount of soap. plain water is fine. it's not like your bub is working in a coal mine.

      And you know this, how?

Well, I guess the baby is a minor

true, they dont start hiring till 6mths ;)

  • We used the Gaia bath wash, and then after drying, massaged the Gaia oil onto their skid for bedtime/when putting on the nappy. Puts them into a sleepy dazy.

There are lots of good courses for baby massaging for bedtime. Link below

  • QV here. Bubs gets eczema so found QV to be the best for it.

I just used a small amount of olive oil in my newborn’s bath. No soap or anything fancy until he was older and started playing outside and actually getting grubby. He’s never had any skin issues or anything though (he’s almost four now).

  • I used QV baby for mine and love it (bath oil, moisturizer and soap ) as they were all free of chemichals.oil is only recommended if your baby has dry skin or some skin issues… So don t worry too much about which one to use. I use gaia on mine when she was 8 days old as my baby skin was really dry but found out the smell was too strong and i didn t like it. By the way, some midwife and pediatrician will also tell you that olive oil (yes, the one you used in the kitchen) would be great too to help your newborn skin. So it doesn t matter which oil as long as both of you are happy. Good luck .

as they were all free of chemichals

      pretty sure it isnt ;)

Aqua (Water), Paraffinum Liquidum, Glycerin, Petrolatum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Squalane, Ceteareth-20, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Stearic Acid, Laureth-3, Glyceryl Stearate, Methylparaben, Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol.

      • Yeah, but that's not 'chemichals'

  • Personally I have always used the Little Innoscents baby products from Chemistwarehouse or their online store which has a larger range. They are all organic, great on babies skin and no irritations.

  • If you are not sure other brands, just pick Cetaphil, it is safe for any ages and is recommended by GP and nurses.

  • I think current recommendations is to not use products on a newborns skin, as it can cause skin allergies.
So go the water/olive oil. ( That's my plan)

  • As a pharmacist I can help you out!

Generally speaking either product should be fine. But they are still based off a mineral oil formula which 99.5% of the time is fine.

IF your having trouble with just general break outs, and also keeping ontop of the rashes before they can even form and get worse - I like to recommend a product called skinshield by r&h beautanicals. awesome new product, doesn't contain any artificial emulsifiers, fragrances or preservatives which can irritate skin - and I haven't had any parents saying their kids had breakouts since starting to use and recommending it.

It's good stuff, simple ingredients but made uniquely -feels like nothing else.

    Hope that helps!
