Travelling to Melbourne in December; Advice needed please!

Hello Everyone,

A group of 4 (including myself) will be travelling to Melbourne on December 4 until 11 December. Flights have been paid for and so has accommodation (staying at the Domain Apartments, Docklands)

Has anyone stayed there before or heard any feedback?
Pictures and reviews on Trivago look good. We’ve booked 2x Two Bedroom rooms.

We arrive into Melbourne at approximately 6:50am and from the Airport to the Apartments what would be the most cost effective method? (While not taking hours)

Any and all advice/suggestions are appreciated.

  • Take skybus from Airport to southern Cross station and from there take free tram to reach dockland. On second thought, taxi may be bit cheaper since there are 4 member in group.

Uber will be cheapest, Taxi will be a little more. Skybus is a terrible idea as you pay per person so you end up paying nearly $80 rather than around 40-60

      • I wouldnt be so quick to recommend uber. I’d look into an Omnicar transfer for Melbourne airport. Might well be cheaper and a better car.

Split an uber and get there without fuss :)

Splitting a Uber would be the best way by far.

I would use Uber/taxify/ola to get around. Myki x4 is pretty expensive. Except in the free tram zone, if you are doing anything like the zoo etc I’d just get Uber.

Ditch your luggage at the hotel and then head into the CBD for breaky.

    • Add Muve and Didi to your list of rideshare apps to download before going. They usually all have a discount for first ride/s so if all 4 people download all 5 apps you should be able to take 20 trips for free. Don't bother with GoCatch though, they are too dodgy and risky.

      • Muve is useless (at least in Brisbane), plus I got several attempts to charge my card (including one successful) the night after I entered my card details into their app.

  • Thanks so far everyone!
I'm attending a Comedian on Wednesday night and Soccer on Saturday.
Apart from that I have 4 nights in Melbourne free.
What else is usually good in December?

  • Uber is much cheaper in Melbourne than it is in Sydney.

Would definitely consider the Uber option!
