Android TV for Old People?

Hi all,

Looking for an Android TV box for old people.

Would prefer something with an ethernet connection.

Mainly for youtube and Netflix apps.

Also web browsing. Any versions better than others for browsing? I have an Minix x8h+ and web browising is pretty bad on it.

I will also get them a keyboard to use with it.

Thanks.

I've never heard of android boxes discriminating. It'll be the same android box for young people!

That would be the Apple TV. Web browsing on streaming device, I dunno about that. They could get an iPad or iPhone and mirror the screen to it.

  • You are very kind to be buying an android tv for those old people.

I just hope that somone will be as nice to you when your an old people.

  • I've never used an Android TV box but my Sony TV is Android and I couldn't recommend it for people learning a new technology. It's not as intuitive as Apple TV and the interface is very slow (once again, is this the TV or the platform). The web browser is there, but painful to type and navigate (although you will be getting a keyboard)

Have you considered something like a Nintendo Wii? The mouse pointer style of the controller is easy with limited buttons and I don't think oldies will care about standard definition. Also cheap as chips.

  • Thanks for the replies.

It's basically for Youtube and Netflix. They have only recently moved from a 2g mobile to an Old Note 3 and it's opened up a new world. But eyesight etc and small buttons is a pain on it.

The web browsing would not be huge, but a consideration.

I thought about a mini PC, but thats another kettle of fish.

    Could chromecast be an option?

Bought my partners father a Mi Box and had no dramas. Roughly 60yo. No ethernet though I believe.

    • Agreed the Mi box is a great device! Ethernet can be added with a USB dongle if necessary also
