Random Gmail Account Added to Huawei P20 on Initial Set up?

I recently bought a brand new Huawei P20 Pro from all phones on ebay and when helping my father set it up for the very first time - a random Gmail name that resembled my first, real name was one of the default emails chosen.

I.e. "[email protected]" - interestingly, it cut off the last letter on my first name and added "applec" to the gmail account.

When I tried to log into the account of this random email it pointed to a Huawei P20 Pro for verification but this verification never popped up on my father's P20.

Any ideas what's happening?

  • Huawei are trolling Apple.

    applec = apple copy

  • Did you get hacked?

  • They probably forgot to remove it from the production deployment ROM hence the login still being in there when you set it up.

  • You sure the phone is brand new? Sounds like somebody had already used it

      You're right. Every smartphone are used at least a few times before leaving the factory. It's part of the manufacturers qc.

      • I agree that phones are tested in the factory but I would be surprised if a major manufacturer leaves trace of some random gmail account on the phone after their testing is complete? Seems a bit dodgy
