Is Catch.com.au Safe ?

Hi guys, I found this good price for the Note 9 and I am wondering about ordering from this website.

I've seen bad reviews and good ones but still in doubt. What do you think ?

Catch.com.au was formally known as Catch of the Day and are legit. The product you've linked however is being sold in their marketplace which is full of approved 3rd party sellers. It's being sold by Techinsea who primarily sell on Lazada Malaysia (Lazada is owned by Alibaba) so they're an overseas company.

No problem ordering this phone but it will be a grey import if that matters to you.

  • Oh ok thank you ! don't know a lot about Grey import, the main issue is about not getting an Australian warranty right ?

    • Since it's still going through Catch it should have a 12 month AU warranty but I could be wrong.

Grey imports usually means that you're not getting a model intended for the Australian market. The one being sold (N960FD) by Techinsea appears to be the Australian & South-east Asia model.

      • N960FD is supposed to be an International version, hope it will works in Europe.
Thanks for your answers I'm gonna ask them about the warranty in Australia

      • Catch warranty page https://www.catch.com.au/warranty doesn't seem to exclude third party seller, thus it represent pretty much any product bought from them. Dispute with third party seller will resulting in payment to that seller for that particular order on pending by Catch until case resolved.

        • Hmmm. So I guess you'd be left with the manufacturer warranty?

OP, You might be better off getting it from The good guys eBay store which is having a 20% off. Australian stock with 2 years warranty and only slightly more (after 20% discount) than Catch: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Samsung-1091004835-Galaxy-No…

    C&C or + for delivery

Huh? Your link is $1,207.70 after the 20% discount.
      That's more than $1,153.90.

Yes, but for the extra $50 you're buying from an Australian retailer w/ proper local Samsung warranty, and additional coverage beyond Samsung's 2 year warranty (Australian consumer law).

I've had screen's fail on Note 2014 10.1 (cloudy spots on LCD ~15 months old, fixed by their local Perth service centre back then(Canning Vale), Tab S2's (1 screen died after ~18 months, 1 Red vertical lines (20 months old), all of which were repaired and returned to me within the week by Samsung Australia (they paid for shipping to/from Sydney when required).

Had any of these been purchased from overseas sellers, I'd have been out of luck and out of pocket 100's of $.

    • Thanks I've already seen this deal but I end up with $1217 with the delivery.

      • serious?

        • True

          Item (1) AU $1,499.00
          Postage AU $17.99
          Vouchers -AU $299.80
          Order total AU $1,217.19

I would go TGG… Worth the extra $50 easily

Agreed… crazy to buy a Grey import on such an expensive item for the sake of $50

Very well known site. They are even opening up physical shopfronts.
You can get 10% off using 7 Eleven's fuel app. Check the offers section.

  • Edit

  • I recently ordered from catch.com.au last week and received the item 3 business days later. No problems from me.

  • Didn't op say something about Europe? If so does overseas stock still get eligibility for TRS. Or does it have to be Australian?

  • how about their branded stuff like Polo Ralph Lauren shirts, Onizuka Tiger sneakers, Birkenstock, etc.?
    Are they genuine or fakes?
Some of the prices on those branded stuff are quite good!

    • I've bought ralph lauren stuff from here, the same polo shirt I'd bought from a department store … and it did not wash well at all! Came out all out of shape and stretched around the collar … can't say I believe they sell ALL branded stuff. At the moment they're selling a huge range of cushion covers … which are the identical ones I found on ali-express … every single one of them … same patterns … priced at 1.99 each. On Catch … $9.95! Pretty shonky if you ask me!

  • I've bought a few things from here. Good genuine products but I'd avoid signing up on their Club Catch service. Signing in is easy but getting out of their subscription is a big pain.

There is no unsubscribe button you can click anywhere. Going to their support site gives you vague options on how to unsub that says either you have to call or you have to click a link to message. A link that, I found out after a lot of going back and forth different links, is non-existent. I called-in but support is closed (outside business hours).

The app doesn't give any options either. Anyway, just a heads up in-case anyone is thinking about getting the "Club Catch" membership.

  • These guys may be legit … but they are CERTAINLY not a place where you'll find a real bargain!!!! You can buy things cheaper at any other retailer online or otherwise. Example … Board game Qwirkle … $34 at catch.com.au … $25 at a multitude of other retail stores(k-mart/target/big W). The Travel Size version of the same game … $19 anywhere else … $29 at Catch!!! And FREQUENTLY, they claim that the retail price of goods is almost quadruple the FACT! Was dumb enough to buy what I thought was a salon quality shampoo for $39 (1 Litre bottle) … they claimed the retail price was $119!!! … IT WAS 29!!!! TEN LESS THAN CATCH!! Infuriating!!!! You're NOT getting a good deal …

Also … they don't accept returns! Literally under NO circumstances! Even if the item does not fit … or is incorrectly sized (because it's European or Italian or Japanese sizing) …

MOST ethical companies allow change of mind exchanges or refunds … THEY'RE THE ONES YOU SHOULD SHOP WITH!!!! Not these rip off merchants!

  • Catch isn't legit, no way at all. They can and do send customers products that don't match the description, faulty products, whatever. Then if you want a refund they flat out refuse. It's dangerous to shop there, you can lose a lot of money.

  • Catch.com.au is either a scam or totally incompetent. Avoid them like the plague.

I bought a PlayStation steering wheel from them on 21st September and got an email on 24th September saying it had been dispatched - all good so far. Then the waiting started. After a week I used the link in the dispatch email to see what the status was and it just said "Ordered". No ETA, no status updates to say where it was - the first big red flag. I looked through the FAQs on the site and it said I had to wait until 30 days after dispatch before I could contact them - the second big red flag. So I waited, and waited, and waited, and nothing arrived.

Eventually it had been 30 days so I looked on the website for how I could contact them about it. There was a graphic saying "call" but no phone number - the third big red flag. Finally I found a button at the bottom of all the FAQs (none of which helped me with an undelivered order) which let me send them a message. I got an email saying my inquiry had been received and also "As messages are addressed in order of submission time, duplicate or multiple inquiries will lead to your message being pushed further back into the queue. This will therefore cause delays in responding to your inquiry. We kindly ask that you refrain from sending follow-up requests". In other words, don't keep messaging us when we don't respond or we'll take even longer to respond - the fourth big red flag. This was on 26th October.

On 1st November I finally got an email saying they were looking into what happened to my order. On 2nd November they emailed to say they'd asked Kmart (who it turns out were the actual retailer) to look for it. They said it could take 3 days to do a "full store search". Six days later - 8th November, nearly 7 weeks after I placed the order - I hadn't heard anything so I contacted them again. They emailed back same day to say that Kmart couldn't find it so it was "lost in transit", they'd refunded my money and - here's the real kicker - "Given the unfortunate circumstances and inconvenience caused, I have applied a $10 credit to your account as a gesture of goodwill". Wow, a whole ten bucks which I can only spend on Catch.com.au, that makes me feel SO much better.

So after 7 weeks of waiting I'm back where I started, except that I now can't get the wheel from anywhere else because in the time it took them to admit they'd lost my order every other retailer has sold out of it and it's been replaced with a crappy new model. Instead I have to pay an extra 50% to get the next model up which will take another 6 to 8 weeks to arrive (but at least the website told me that when I bought).

I once worked for a marketplace website like Catch.com.au (no, not Amazon) and even though our customers weren't technically buying from us, by hosting the retailers on our site we were vouching for them. That meant that if something went wrong the buck stopped with us, and that didn't mean just throwing the customer's money back at them and giving them a pathetic amount "in their account". Catch.com.au is aping Amazon but falling at the lowest hurdle: actually getting the customer what they ordered. I won't make the mistake of trusting them again.
