2 Laptops: Intel i7 7560U Vs i5 8250U

If you were to choose between these two for everyday use (no gaming) , which would you prefer?
Work would include mainly multiple chrome tabs, streaming TV and word processing.

Laptop needs to be light and portable for couch surfing. Essentially comparing the 7th gen i7 vs 8th gen i5

  1. HP Spectre X360 13-AE009TU
    8th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 8250U
    13.3" Touchscreen BrightView Display
    8GB ram
    360GB SSD Storage
    $1425

  2. HP Spectre X2 12-c010tu
7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7560U Processor (2.4 GHz base frequency, up to 3.8 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 4 MB cache, 2 cores)
    Windows 10 Home 64
    12.3" diagonal 3K2K IPS WLED-backlit multitouch-enabled edge-to-edge glass (3000 x 2000)
    16 GB LPDDR3-1866 SDRAM (onboard);
    1 TB SSD
    $1350

Looking at these 2 , the HP Spectre x2 has slightly better "value". It has a much larger SSD and more ram.
Im not too sure of the 2 in one format of the spectre though over just a normal laptop like the Spectre x360

    Dell XPS

  • The price is considerably more for an xps13

get the x360 if you care about battery life. The 'surface' clone gimmick gets old and you'll pay in 3h max battery life for it.

    i'd go with the x2

igpu in 7560u are heaps better than 8250u

    i prefer 2c4t at higher clocks than 4c8t , unless you're into rendering/encoding

and 1tb ssd + 16gb ram are bonus icing over x360 for sure

  • 2 laptops, 1 decision

  • X360 much better for laptop use if you're sitting on the couch. I'd go for that on your use case, upgrade hdd later as needed

  • X2.

Streaming TV and word are not affected by the difference in CPU. Having many Chrome tabs open will take up more RAM. Only real disadvantage is the kickstand design is a bit awkward if not on a flat surface.

  • The 8th gen i5 (quad core) in the x360 is around 12-25% faster than the 7th gen i7 (dual core) in the x2

But personally I'd value the extra ram, SSD and higher res screen of the X2, especially considering that it is cheaper. The i7 comes with Intel Iris graphics which is a better for gaming (+30%), if that matters to you

My only concerns with the x2 are the keyboard; the microsoft surface has a pretty average feeling keyboard vs a normal laptop, and potentially the weight of the screen half, which may make it unbalanced on your lap (hence why it has a stand on the back)

  • Is the ram and SSD upgradeable on the Spectre x360?

    • On-board system memory, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable
      Support for LPDDR3-2133 dual channel
      Support for 16384-MB (256-MB × 32 × 4 × 4 pieces) and 8192-MB (256-MB × 16 × 4 × 4 pieces) conƭgurations
