Best Flight Ticket Websites 2018

Gday

I want to know what site ppl use to book flights. There are some previous forum topics for this but they are years old so outdated now as i assume things have changed.

I'm flying internationally (to the US) in Dec and looking for best prices. Generally in the past i have been using Priceline. Can any of you helpful dudes help out a dude by suggesting others / sharing opinions on what's best?

Thanks!

    tripadvisor.com.au
    momondo.com.au
    skyscanner.com.au

    Worthy mention:
www.google.com/flights/ - this is useful for finding the dates for the cheapest flights across a range of dates, although the price listed is not the cheapest, you can then plug in the dates into other sites to get the cheapest price.

That's how I do it anyway.

AuntBetty.com.au has consistently been the cheapest for all my flights to London. Flight Centre (same company) will beat them by $1 but can't be bothered dealing with someone when can fill in the form, pay online and get e-ticket in 5 mins.

    • Thanks for the info! Can u elaborate on the Flight Centre thing; they will beat them by $1 in a pricebeat kinda way or? Are you generally saying Flight Centre is slightly cheaper, just not sure what you meant?

AuntBetty, BYOJet and Flight Centre are all pretty much the same company.

Flight Centre will beat any Aunt Betty price by $1 as their guarentee to be the cheapest. You'll need to pop into a store or call an agent and give them your details, they'll search for you and if can't get cheaper option than Aunt Betty, will offer you the same price minus $1 (pricebeat) to be cheaper.

Some people like this route as you get to speak to a person and have any questions/issues addressed and others prefer to just book online themselves without the hassle of dealing with people. To each their own I suppose.

Your consultant will need to confirm that the quote is genuine, available and able to be booked by the general public when you present it to us. If it is, we will BEAT it by $1 per person.

        • Thanks a lot for that info, very helpful!

@Iggemo: No problem, definitely cross check with other sites to make sure you are getting the best deal and once you've found a flight you want, check with the airline directly on their own website to see what prices they charge directly.

Generally, airlines will show higher prices than comparison websites or travel agents but every so often there might be a special discount or fluke where you might get it same price or cheaper. Good luck!

          • @Iggemo: FC's price drop guarantee is not paid out in cash, but a FC gift certificate. So if you book with FC, pay the Captains guarantee fee and then your fare goes on special and drops by $20 - $50 - $100 or whatever, they will give you a $20 - $50 - $100 FC gift voucher - pretty much worthless.

  • Lately I've booked flights direct with the airline but we did choose fly365 a while back because they were the cheapest at the time. Great customer service.

  • I use Skikdoo a couple of times for flights. Eticket issued within half an hr of booking. I used them because at least they have an Australian address and ABN number, the member of IATA does not mean much as I tried to search further about membership of some other online travel agencies but couldn't find info to prove they are members. Skkiddo might not be cheapest but at least they gave me a bit more confidence. So far everything was good, will certainly use them again in future.

  • I only book one-way flights and I'm flexible on my departure dates so I use https://www.flightlist.io - you can discover some really great deals.

  • Click Frenzy travel coming up Feb 26-27 (2019) if you want to be adventurous.

  • I use Trip.com for flights and hotels….it's just heaps cheaper than anywhere else…

Just be careful buying online! And makesure you pay with credit card (if you can).

I know that Webjet and Bestjet have gone under, they are currently in admin. My friend and her partner headed to South Korea and Japan 4 weeks ago, they searched via Sky Scanner and bought off Bestjet with their debit card. They got to check-in and were told that their flights weren't paid for (attendant asked who they bought from and then explained that Bestjet went under etc), so they had to go to the Flight Center in the international airport in Sydney and buy their ticket. They got home about a week ago and sent a few emails, made a few calls to their bank, if they paid with credit card, everything would have been returned to them but because they paid with credit card they are now just listed as a creditor, so they have no idea if/when they will get their money back.

If you are searching via Sky Scanner, make sure you do a little research on the company before finalising payment.
