Maddie from Videopro is the best rep on Ozbargain IMO. I bought a Cybershot from them several months ago through Ozbargain (I think it might be a different model to this one though). It is a great camera and their service was fantastic! Upvote!

    • Hi Jean-Baptiste - You know your name actually looks familiar :) Glad your enjoying the camera and thanks for the comments!

Hi Maddie - is it possible to pay the difference and upgrade to the SF16N4 16gb memory card?

    • +7

Hi Shab - Won't be a problem at all. It will be measured by our online sell price for both items so if you just enter the coupon code and write in the delivery notes that I said you could do it, it will be looked after for you :) The guys will then adjust when they bring it into our system for processing.

Thanks Maddie, I just placed my order. For other OzBargainers, I've spent the last week reading up on the low-end waterproof cameras, and a number of reviews/forum threads place the Sony TX5 over the Panasonic TS10 and Fuji XP10, despite it being the oldest of the 3 cameras and having the lowest number of megapixels. In Melbourne brick & mortar shops, Ted's list it instore for $299, next closest I could find was DCW for $362. So with the included extra Sony battery, 8gb memory card and free shipping, I think it's a great deal.

      • Hi Maddie - Just ordered this and requested the same - Hope that's okay :) Looking forward to it.

        • No Problem at all Xtian84 :)

  • Can you make it cheaper without Memory Card.?

  • Too bad. We just recommended a Au$272 deal (incl'g 8 GB SD card + some small, cheap, useful bits) for a Panasonic Lumix … TZ10, which -didn't- include an extra battery pack.

OTOH, it -does- include GPS & face-recognition (ie, it records where you are & up to ~5 people in the shot), etc.

'wish I had a comparison between these 2 cameras, ie,
-before- I had to send the recommendation in…

Have you got multi-product comparison functions on your web site? Maybe we can use it… next time…

PS Does the Sony work -seemlessly- (even for its videos; ie, no need to convert canera's output video file to a format acceptable with iMac's iMovie) with recent iMac's? TIA.

    • The TZ10 isn't waterproof, so not a direct competitor to the TX5.

      • It is for those who don't need to use it outside. :-)

Also, I think I've read some reviews that put these cam's in the same category… Super-Zoom…? or similar.

'wish I knew if it's the same at this vendor's "Panasonic DMC TZ10K"

(The one I referred to has no 'K' suffix)

        • I see what you mean :). Snapsort classifies the TZ10 as a "travel zoom", and it is ranked as #1 in both its price range (#1 of 41) and against similar cameras in that class (#1 of 56). On the other hand, the Sony TX5 is classed as a "waterproof camera", and also ranks #1 of 18 in its price range, and #2 of 24 in waterproof cameras, only pipped by the Sony TX10 (which is significantly more expensive). The Snapsort website states the following in a direct comparison of the 2 cameras (TX5 vs TZ10): "Snapsort recommends the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5. This recommendation, however, should be taken with a grain of salt since it doesn't always make sense to compare a travel zoom with a waterproof". A good endorsement for both cameras regardless.

"Free Shipping applies to Mainland Australia Only"

    Poor Tassie

    • Shame AustPost!!!

Or maybe the vendor… can't this thing's box fit into a AustPost Express Satchel?!?

    • Hi huu - As per my previous posts we had to make a decision to not apply free shipping to non-mainland destinations. It was a tough decision made on our behalf however we needed to remain consistent with this policy therefore Tasmania had to be included. On a side note, I think you will find our shipping prices aren't too bad when comparing to other retailers - Not only for small items but larger ones too.

  • Too bad I just got the camera from HK for about $250. I would have happily spent the extra $30 for local stock.

  • +1

gosh, i bought the same item mid last year, cost me $500+.

  • If this is anything like the Sony DSC-TX7 bargain they had 6 months ago then its an awesome camera.

    • I got the same camera as you last time and if this one is similar to what I have it should be a very very good deal. imho.

  • i bought the TX7 camera Videopro had here on OzBargain last year. It's a fantastic camera, but it's stopped working all of a sudden. The camera turns on for a split millisecond before turning off again. Whilst I know this isn't Videopro's fault, I'll let everyone know how their customer service is in regards to warranty claims :P

i fail to see what's so good about this apart from the water proof and touch screen gimmick? we can get the Canon Ixus with more pixel (12.1Mpx) for less than $200.

    • i am not an expert but sony has carl ceiss lens.
and the case made of steel and very strong.
      don't know if this matters.

    • +4

Funny how you consider touch-screen a gimmick yet brag about your megahpixelz.

Seriously, waterproof is an expensive feature and even if you never take a photo underwater, you don't have to worry about water ingress :) I jest, but if you don't need a waterproof camera, then you won't find this a big deal. It still has a 25mm wide angel lens, advanced image processing, optical image stabiliser with 4x zoom, super sleek body with lithium-ion battery. If you want a basic P&S then of course your $78 Canon will do the job. They are in an entirely different category, though.

    • Water/Dust/Freeze/Shock proof is a gimmick but extra megapixels aren't?

      lol.

      • -1

perhaps you guys can enlighten me on how many pixels are sufficient to view a foto full screen on an eye infinity 6 set up, 1080p each screen.

        • +1

still less than 12 mega pixel .. actually .. much much less .. eye infinity max res is 2560x1600 .. which by definition .. is only 4.1 mega pixel :)

Ahh - you've obviously have never used a Sony camera with an Exmor R sensor. Its low-light performance absolutely kicks everyone else in the butt, then proceeds to point and laugh at them like a madman.

I'm a big fan of Canon SLRs, and my choice of compacts used to be Panasonic. Now I've completely abandoned Panasonic for Sony after using the TX7. The touchscreen is actually easy to use, and if you get the TX7, the screen is REALLY sharp and clear. I was quite skeptical of touchscreens till I used the TX7 - it's awesome. The TX5's screen is smaller and lower res, but pretty decent.

Borrow someone's TX5/7/HX5 and try out Handheld Twilight in a dark room, and compare it handheld with a Canon or Panasonic compact. Or even an SLR. :)

    • DWI is not australian stock and not covered by Sony Australia.

    • …and you only get one battery with the DWI deal.

I love this place.. so many great deals.. I wanna find something good enough to post soon

Guys, whilst searching on Get price I noticed the TX5 on Graysonline for $258.90 delivered. they have a red colour available (Silver and pink seem to be out of stock). Comes with the battery but no memory card. So if you dont need a memory card and you want to buy local this might be of interest

  • Hi Maddie,

I have just received my camera today (in very good time, thanks!), but it does not seem to have the 8gb memory card with it as promised if I typed in the promotion code as a ozbargain buyer.

should I be following this up with you or do i contact video pro?

if you need to contact me for all the details please email me on [email protected] or you can call me on 0423657202.

I look forward to your reply :).

    Cheers
    Michael Chong

    • Hi Michael - I believe our Manager has contacted you and this is all sorted :) Apologies for the inconvenience.

      • all sorted with no hassles! thanks Maddie!

  • Just purchased one for my dad. Was about to purchase the Panasonic DMC-FT2 from DWI (overseas grey importer) but I thought with the local stock and good comments here changed my mind.

    • make sure you try out Handheld Twilight and compare it with your previous compact, in a dim area. :)

the auto-stitching panorama mode is pretty cool too!

  • got mine today, did anyone else notice the strap was already attached to the camera? is this normal?

    • I think because the camera is so small and very slippery that the strap is attached during assembly to encourage you to use it.

    • yeah got the same thing on mine, no biggy thou.

  • The TX5 is listed at $257 at my local VideoPro store now.

  • Received my unit earlier today. I bought it for my dad but it looks like it's a bit too small / thin for his needs. He's got poor eye sight and huge hands so after a five minute play we're going to have to return it back. For everyone else, it's constructed really well, very nice svelte camera. Hmmm I will probably have to a basic dSLR for him.

I've never sent anything back so fingers crossed. Any experiences with returns with videopro? I did a live chat before I ordered and videopro said change of mind was fine as long as everything is together. I've only used for five minutes so I'll post here my feedback.

    • +1

      Thank you videopro.

They did a total refund for a change of mind purchase. Their customer service was absolutely excellent in both communication and speed. I have never actually returned anything online so I was quite blown away by the experience.

I feel bad that they would have lost some money on the transaction, but hope others can see it's a great company to deal with. Strongly recommended.

      • Their business section is excellent as well… and they also often match local-stock online prices.
