Currently looking at Aussie Broadband and Telstra, any other suggestions?

Leaning towards Aussie Broadband since they've been highly regarded around OzB.

I vote Aussie Broadband. My service is great.

    • What are speeds during peak hours like?

      • I was previously on their 100mb/s plan and was getting speeds in the low 90s. Currently on the 50mb/s plan getting around 43mbps. This is entirely dependant on the NBN infrastructure available at your home

        • That's good. Any reason why you downgraded?

          • @southaussiewithcosi: 50mb/s is fast enough for what I use the internet for - watching Netflix and other streaming tv - I don’t notice any difference in performance between the 50 and 100 plan. Might be worth the faster speed if you need it!

            • @pantsparty: Would 50 mb/s be fast enough for two or three simultaneous 720p/1080p streams? Can't decide between the two.

Edit: Did you go with 24 month plan and free modem, or no lock-in contract and pay for the modem?

              • @southaussiewithcosi: Yes. Don't go on a 24 month contract.

                • @follow: I just checked with them, they said it's $149 to leave contract, same price as paying for the modem up front. I don't see a downside to that?

        • That's generally entirely dependant on you RSP of choice and how much bandwidth they buy for their customers. Something abb is well known for doing right.

Suggest abb simply because they do a month to month option. Try, if you like stay

  • I'd consider Vodafone as well. In my experience their speeds are pretty damn good. Having used both Aussie and Vodafone I think you'd be hard pressed to see any difference.

$10 cheaper than Aussie for 100/40 and comes with a 12/1 4G Backup which would have saved me at least three times when Aussie went down for 1+ hours each.

That said every location is different. I can only talk to my experience. But Vodafone do have a 30 day network promise.

  • Dont go telstra. Was with them 4 months was ok first month then speed fell to 20m because "they were connecting new people in my area" i spent 2 months fighting to get what they should of been giving me then on 4th month told em to stick it and went back to aussie lol.

    • Thanks for the heads up!

No prob mate, if you already have a modem why not do a aussie 1 month free trial, if you still wanna check someone else out after just change 2-3 weeks in to a new provider (set the change over for the last few days before aussie is up if you dp it)
