Recover a Disconnected Number

I have been with Vodafone for several years. Requested to disconnect a plan a few days ago. And forgot to port it in time.

Number got disconnected. New provider is saying they can't port it. Vodafone is saying the number is dormant but no longer with them.

Number starts with 0433.

Any advice how to handle this apart from being less stupid?

Thank you.

    • Unfortunately, I don't think this is viable for quarantined numbers after a disconnect.

Unfortunately this kind of scenario was all too common when I worked in telco and recovering some numbers was almost impossible. You can try asking a few carriers but often dormant numbers end up getting assigned to prepaid starter kits or businesses that buy numbers in bulk. I once had a customer who went overseas and when he came back he said the number went to voicemail so it obviously wasn’t in use (it was in a bank ATM) called them and said no chance of changing it the cost was too high.

  • No way you're getting it back unless you're Vodafone CEO or something.

Spoke to another customer service rep via live chat. Reconnected in minutes :D

That’s a great outcome. For future ports you don’t need to disconnect the number with your old carrier. That is automatically done when you request a port to a new carrier.
