Adjustable Dumbbells (SmartBell), A Worth While Investment?

2 Pack Fortis 24kg Adjustable SmartBell

I was thinking about creating a home gym for me and the wife versus us both paying for gym membership, saw that these existed, are these type of products actually any good for fitness or are they just another useless fitness gimmick?

    Gimmick

  • With these being an 8th of the price, you and your wife could each have 4 sets calibrated to your fabulous muscle drink pods

    • Weight isn't enough at 10kg per bar, I'd need to purchase additional weights. Though your idea is still good if I looked for similar products.

Weight isn't enough at 10kg per bar,

In all seriousness, these would be very useful in concept, but you'd have to be gentle with them.

For this particular model, the rubber grip looks problematic. That would become slick when sweaty and wear out with use.

    • With these

      • Cement filled ABS plastic

Those are the brown standard of crap!

      • yes, but lets be real here. Home gym? Getting used 5 times and then turned into a storage room

  • Download a free workout app from Android or IOS and see if you can maintain using just that for a month with good results on your bodies.

Depends what you do with them I suppose.

If you want a cheap home gym check out some books by prisoners, it's amazing what necessity can come up with.

A friend is a "ghetto gym" enthusiast.

Steel bars, milo tins and concrete.

And they work exactly the same way.

        • Almost. Haha. Commercial ones don't give you tetanus.

I have had these for almost 10 years now - paid around a $100 for them. I liked them so much I bought another pair.

They can be bought on gumtree for a lost less.

The length can get in the way, but I find it much better than swapping out plates in between sets. Obviously not enough weight for some major compound movements, but it's ok for isolation and maybe overhead press.

I have a set. Hardly use them, but I am lazy and wanting to change that…

    • I've just started at a gym (5 weeks ago) and loving it at the moment, 4 x a week, 2 x upper, 2 x lower.

For a home gym I'd need a fair amount equipment to match my current routine.

        Good luck with them gains.

  • Have the similar powertrain unit for a year… Use it 4 days a week… currently doing a program called LIIFT4.. prior to that did P90x3 few times… The dumbbells do the job…. Bought the 40 kg version of these now….
