Nintendo Warranty and ACL Guarantee

Hi,

Has anyone put the acl guarantee to use?

Here's my situation.

I had a faulty analog stick on my switch joy con, sent it to nintendo approx. 1 month after 1yr warranty was up. Nintendo refused to repair it under warranty(warranty duration wasn't the problem) stating it was physical abuse that caused the issue because the analog stick put an indent on the aluminium backing plate. I believe this was due to continued usage during and after the fault had occurred. At first it started with a clicking noise which probably lasted a couple of days then completely failed.

Now it's currently with nintendo and they want $20 in it's non repaired state and returned to me or $50 repaired.

What can i do with acl guarantee? And how do i get the ball rolling? I'm in qld so do i simply contact fair trading?

Thanks

  • the analog stick put an indent on the aluminium backing plate.

That's pretty damning. You're really going to argue you didn't abuse the controller?

An analogy would be trying to make a warranty claim on a car engine after you crashed the car, arguing that you "crashed it after the defect occurred" lol.

    • Yeah seriously. If there is a indent on the back it either got damaged in transit (which would be your fault for not packing it well), someone stepped on it, or you abused the controller.

      normal use wouldn't cause that.

Just let them keep it and buy a new one for $50.

EDIT: I thought you meant the actual back of the joycon controller, but I now assume you mean the aluminium backing plate on the actual analogue stick. In that case I guess it could happen from too much use, but still likely to be considered 'abuse'

  • Yes the indent is on the internal backing plate.
I definately haven't been rough with it, and others even on here have had the same drama. I don't know if this is a production issue and nintendo ain't going to admit it.
But I'm definately going to pay the $20 at the least to get it back so it doesn't become a refurb unit they can flog off.
So in order to get it to this stage to see wether it's under warranty or not it's an automatic $20(to get product returned otherwise it's so called disposed) if nintendo doesn't deem it to be a product defect.

I know it's my word against their's, but if i can break a joy con without much chop then isn't that the purpose of the acl guarantee? Making product to expect a reasonable lifespan? I don't know the exact numbers of this occurring to others but if we don't speak up how does nintendo know their joycons aren't much chop?

If you guys overwhelmingly think this is a waste of time then i won't waste anymore energy on it and just get it returned to me and I'll replace the stick myself.

  • I just bought a new joy con…

Good lucking calling the plebs at Nintendo and trying to quote ACL guarantees lol
