Trouble Installing Nvidia Drivers 416.34

Hi folks, like many of you I got a shiny new gtx1080 the other day, I can't get the drivers installed or at least the latest drivers…

My theory is that because you need the Oct Update of Windows to support Ray Tracing, the newest drivers won't install on anything less?

But that updates been pulled by windows because of the file deletion scare that's going around atm.

Any one else having this trouble? Think I'm right or its something else?

I can install a older version of the drivers 399 something is the latest version available from MSI directly, then GeForce experience said get new version and it downloaded it but failed to install also…

(Installing from MSI was not the first method I tried, I tried using the generic NVidia drivers first)

Comments

  • Run Display Driver Uninstaller first, then give it another go.

  • Yeah, this was a fresh install.

  • I have 416.34 installed for my 970, not on the Oct Update of Windows yet.

    • Yeah,I tried it this morning using the latest education version available from Dreamspark (March 2018 update) and still no dice. Gave housemate free reign and he installed a windows copy from "alternate source", says latest driver installed fine.

      • On the same pc or his own?

        • On the same one, diskpart clean ssd and fresh install

  • If anyone else having this issue, in the end, only way I could do it was with fresh install, not connected to the internet, and then installed drivers.

I didn't try DisplayDriverUninstaller because I've honestly never had dramas like this and was more interested in getting it sorted than working around it.

And I guess I still did have to work around the issue but at least I was able to install the standard legit drivers on my legit copy of windows.

(Still not on 1809, on Version 1803, OS Build 17134.376)
