exactly…one way flights are a no deal
Some people might pay $49 a year for this "mastercard" but they might be the same people who buy clothes from David Jones

    not free

    • The annual fee is currently $49 for the primary Jetstar MasterCard and $9 for each additional card, and $149 for the primary Jetstar Platinum MasterCard and $39 for each additional card.

I earned $300 in free flights this year with this card without paying any interest. So $250 ahead after the $49 annual fee. Plus I got a free $50 jetstar voucher when I opened the account. So $300 in free flights in the first year. Not a bad deal, thanks qantas!

AND I got a 6 months balance transfer at 0% interest at the time I applied. So used this to pay off my old cards balance so saved money there too. This balance transfer offer is available on the current offer according to the advert, & the free flight is available to ANYWHERE on jetstars domestic network. Not bad, you just have to pay the return journey. If you wait to book the return flight you might get a good price at some point (you will most likely have 3 months to book & 6 to travel using the jetstar voucher. these are the normal terms with these vouchers in my experience).

People might also like to know they ran a double jetstar shopping points offer over December 2010 & Jan 2011. This meant a $100 jetstar voucher for every $5,000 spent (normally it's $100 voucher for every $10,000 spent). So we put everything on the credit card & earned $200 in jetstar vouchers in 2 months. Now going to queensland on holiday in June & flying free with the $300 we have accumulated in vouchers! And paid no interest on our cc purchases.

I really hope they repeat this same double points promo next christmas.

I also used the card to buy Grace Bros vouchers at christmas at 10% off. We bought a bed at 40% at the new year sale with the vouchers, and got enough Myer One points to get a $40 myer gift voucher. So if you combine all these kind of offers you can get quite good value using a card like this one.

        are you for real?
who racks up $10000 worth of buying in 2 months? If so, not everyone has a salary of over 100 grand

        • +1

We don't spend $10,000 on our card every 2 months. Geez.

Because of the offer we paid for all the things we have to pay for regularly anyway on the card. Like groceries, the council rates, telephone, petrol, electricity, insurance, car rego, etc. This can add up to thousands for a household over 2 months if large bills are due. Might as well get someone back for yourself right?

When there are double points on offer you might buy a few extra things (like a new bed - ours was 10 years old, & getting some new tyres for the car - they were done) to take advantage of the offer. But then you mightn't buy anything big again for who knows how long…

I'm not suggesting people do this all year. I mentioned the deal jetstar ran over Dec/Jan so people would be informed.

There are other benefits to the card, like the $1 fare sale promotions jetstar runs occasionally. Only cardholders are invited to buy $1 fares. I got an email recently saying they are running this $1 fare sale again soon for cardholders.

So there are more benefits to having the card than what you read in the current advert. Thought people might like to know about them.

if you do your sums, you will see that there are better deals and reward options with other cards where you don't pay any fees…

  • changing the title and negging my post doesn't help…

can't you see the contradiction ?

    Free flight… $49 Annual fee ???

I get my mastercard for FREE but it doesn't come with a $49 free flight…
I can then use my free mastercard to by a $39 flight and be $10 better off…
(I also get a free supplementary card, so i'm, saving $49 all up…)

    • Which mastercard do you have? I doubt it has the interest rate and interest free period like this card.

      • i have a coles/myer mastercard…

it's free and gives me any additional 4 cents off fuel, so 8 cents off in total when i fill up each week…

so it saves me an additional $150 per year on fuel per car, so save around $300 in fuel per year per car, and costs me nothing… i only use it to pay for coles supermarket purchases….

i use my amex for most other things, they have a better reward program and it is also free… i can use points for any airline…

Seems a bit harsh to neg this deal given you are getting:

A credit card with rewards for a year.
      & A free flight. (i.e Perth -> Sydney on a random date I looked up is $159)

      For $49.

You can't expect free flights & a rewards credit card for nothing. Of course a rewards card isn't for everyone.

      • i have 2 cards, so it would cost $49 + $39

You can't expect free flights & a rewards credit card for nothing.

        that's what i get with my amex…

        • What interest rate do amex charge on this card, & how many interest free days do you get? Also any 0% interest on balance transfers offer or similar?

There are other features to a card besides the annual fee so I'm curious how it compares on these points.

If it's a good deal I might swap!

Not free, not a bargain, not a good deal at all. Neg.

This beats their $100 Jetstar voucher previously offered, esp if you are flying to Perth. I would join if I didn't already have the card!

i actually think that this is a good deal. upto 55 days interest free. 12.74% is a good rate btw and a free flight. Plus other travel vouchers too.

  • "Free flight" have been told by jetstar that there was no such deal, that it was for a voucher that is asctivated 60days after first purchase. I definitely had an email that said a free flight to be used in May or June. They are now not honouring it. I have been debating with them for a month now.
