Travel Adapter That Work in Most Countries around The World

Does anyone have any recommendations for travel adapters that work in most countries around the world? Have looked at Amazon reviews and blogs and struggling to find a great option.

Needing to charge USB and MacBook 12 inch (USB-C). Hoping to charge them as quick as possible (quick charge 3.0?) but also be great to not need to carry the MacBook charger.

Currently looking at this one:

  • Get an adaptor that is all built into one unit, rather than have attachments that needs to be removed / added like the one you showed.

An example is like this one:-

    • Would this then be compatible to charge a MacBook (in a reasonable time) directly connected to USB?

      • I’d say No.

        You’d need a USB A to USB C cable.

That adapter also would not give anywhere near enough power to charge a MacBook.

I have something very similar. Works alright for my iPad but very slow charge.

As you can see in the 3rd from right photo on the link above you can bring your MacBook plug and plug it into that adapter while still using the USB ports.

        That’s what I’d do

      • +1

If you need to charge a Macbook and other high current draw items within a reasonable time then you have to find a travel adapter that supports USB-PD ethnology. While I agree with the previous poster that using an adapter with multiple plus could be annoying, it would be hard to find an all in one with USB-C, USB-PD and/or QC2/3 support.

Perhaps use a dumb all-in-one plug like this one (https://www.gearbest.com/plugs-sockets/pp_281953.html?wid=14…) with a quality USB-PD adapter like this one (https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-USB-PD-Type-C-Char…)

Even better but pricey, this one - https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/satechi-75w-multiport-travel-ch…

These chargers would most likely come with a AU plug but if not you can simply get a figure-8 cable from Jaycar/Bunnings, etc. quite easily.

Another benefit is you'll be able to use the adapter at home as a backup charger for all your devices.

        • I am after a universal plug like the one you listed from gearbest. They look pretty low on the quality scale, is there any benefits in moving to something of more quality?

I do not care for charge speed as long as it is safe, I prefer to charge at lower speeds for battery sake.

          • @knobbs: In addition to quality issues with most all-in-one travel adapters with USB charging the other problem I've seen is that they usually have pretty bad/cheap USB charging circuitry. It may be OK to charge a smartphone but I would think twice before connecting any expensive device to one of those charging ports. That is mainly the reason I've always resort to using a quality USB charging hub with a separate all-in-one travel adapter when I'm travelling.

Getting back to your question, I have used this one in the past : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/WIWU-Universal-Travel-Adapte…

This one is sold on few different websites including Amazon & eBay under different brand names.

Claims to have QC3.0 and personally can't fault build quality either.

        • Thanks @websterp for those suggestions. Think this is the best way to go.

I can get the Tronsmart sent to Aus quicky with Geekbuying's Australia express option, but any suggestions for getting the all-in-one plug here quickly? I fly out in 2.5 weeks so knowing my luck it would get lost or delayed if I went with Gearbest…

    • Just used this one in Japan - very good quality.

  • I tried this one World Power Outlets from apknite. Work well for me when I'm India. Hope this helps you .
