    THIS is better when you need to carry much data on the road such as video editing which does prefer fast transfer speed, and of course your device needs USB type c port to make most out of it. For normal home use/data backup, internal drive + adaptor works just fine. As far as I know, most adaptors use only USB 3 which is a huge bottle neck in terms of using SSD in the first place.

      I concur. I've got a smaller one of these and it's great. Transfer speed is very constant and remains at full rate whereas most other external drives will burst and then slow down, sometimes to dismal speeds.
