Internet Connection Other than NBN or ADSL

Hi OzBargainers!

I have been a big fan of this site and have been using this site regularly for my purchases. I would like to get your help on my internet situation atm.

I live in an apartment where I cant have an NBN box installed and idiots from Belong have registered my address in NBN (that's a story for another day).

Can you please let me know what other options I have for an internet connection? Would be nice to know what my options are. I live in the Parramatta area.

Edit: I was going to opt for Optus's 200GB data but my HD streaming habits may use it up at the end of the month after which I will get charged 10$ for 1GB so I ruled it out of the question.

I forgot which isp I think it was Telstra or Vodafone that has a 4G back up modem thing for when you are down so technically you could get a proper "NBN" quality speed connection but through 4G network aka a backup SIM card provided by a Vodafone/Telstra SIM backup..
Sorry I can't remember the exact plan but am 90% sure it was one of those.

But more pricy than budget NBN plans but if you don't have NBN installed yet or at all this is your best bet..

Otherwise yeah large .mobile data plans. Kogan is pretty good for 17-32gb. I think Optus has some too unlimited but they not cheap.

It's max 6Mbps for Telstra. Only temporary. You get kicked if you use it too much.

      • Ah damn TIL was hoping for insane 4G speeds.

  • How much data?

Get two of these for~$100. $2400
Sell them for$900 with JBL headphones. $1800

    End up with 400gb for$25 a month

Thanks for letting me know about this deal. I finally went for this one and since I need new phone too, I will pair it with the iPhone XS deal to make it 400GB and that should be more than enough for me.

    Best to worst:

    Private Laser Connection
    5G
    NBN FttP
    NBN FttC
    Cable (fast)
    4G
    ADSL2
    Cable (slow)
    3G
    Dialup
    2G (dead)
    Ham radio
    Smoke signals
    Message in a bottle
    Prayer
    NBN FttN

    • 5G is an imaginary thing created by marketing. It does magical things which cannot be explained. Somehow, through means that no one can explain, it's going to replace everything including fibre.

It's the kind of horseshit Malcom Turnbull would dribble when he was Communications Minister and then (LMAO) Prime Minister.

      • It can reach a theoretical speed of 5,000Mbps and Telstra has tested their new 5G Version (Not LTE v3 fyi) and they've hit something like 2,500Mbps in Adelaide.

I don't think the consumer version would be anywhere near that. But even if it ONLY hits and maintains 300Mbps during peak use…that's still much faster than NBN FttP.

Yes, the NBN sucks that much. And I'm on NBN100 (the highest) with FttP getting 20-60Mbps. So I don't believe NBN one bit when they say they will be faster than 5G…not until its board members are sacked!

So between the two exaggeraters/liars, I much rather believe the likes of Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Verizon etc etc

Vividwireless Unlimited 4G (capped to 10Mb)?

    • +1 for Vivid wireless. I'm amazed at how well this works. 5 adults in a house waiting for NBN and it just keeps working. It handles people watching Netflix, YouTube and general browsing and doesn't lag like the old ADSL. I'm on the unlimited data plan and use about 450Mb per month. Not cheap but better than nothing at all.

      • 450Gb?

Yeah ——- Sorry. Should be GB. I was more worried about whether the B should be a capital or not.

For us, Vividwireless was a life saver as our ADSL sync was 3Mb and we could not get cable. 500GB a month, no problems except some slowdown during peak hours.

We actually subscribed to two units, and used a WAN load balancer (TL-R470T) to distribute traffic over both connections. We've moved home since so if anyone is interested in the WAN balancer let me know.
