I'm a casual employee, here to answer your questions about anything. I work back area, so I mainly assemble burgers and cook/fry.

    • I don't make fries, however I do grill the meat. Whenever I'm told that an unseasoned patty is needed, it's sort of annoying. I really have to force myself to not automatically season it when I'm getting it off the grill.

To be honest, a fresh fries request is probably more annoying.

      Front counter to the rescue!
Fresh fries requests can be annoying at times, especially when the store is quiet. If the store is crowded and packed, then the fries are always fresh (usually, as I work in CBD), they make the judgemental call.
No salt = definite new batch as the current batches are already salted.

Do the kids who work in fast food give a F about the service they give? My experience has been mostly no. How about yours?

Hard to blame them since they're paid so low and treated so poorly. That's a problem with the system.

  • Why is it so hard for McCafe to make a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich. I can't eat ham due to a food intolerance, and I'd say 2/5 times I order one I get a HCT. Are the McCafe people just illiterate or something?

    • This has happened at plenty of Cafe's I've been to. You ask for a cheese and tomato only and they throw in the ham. So not just a McCafe.

I don't get how they get it so wrong.

      • I originally thought maybe I wasn't speaking clearly enough or something, because sometimes the register operator would actually enter Ham, Cheese & Tomato. So now I only ever order at the kiosk, so I can sure of what I'm ordering, and they still get it wrong.

        • Maybe stop going there then…

  • Hey mate, do you happen to know what brand of coffee beans is used in McCafe? I like the coffee from McCafe, compared to many other stores.
    Thanks.

    • We actually source our beans from a private supplier that I'm not currently aware of. I just know that it's not sourceable from shops.

How do you make a thickshake or milkshake from coles/aldi/woolworths ingredients?

Apart from the fries it is probably the only thing I really want to make.. fries is hard though need a deep fryer for that and only got a conventional fan forced and grill oven.

    • i didn't know the staff at maccas went to coles to get the ingredients to make the thickshakes. i always thought they came from the maccas warehouse in a container already made and just got emptied into the machine

      • I assumed so too but if you have seen it first hand I would assume you might be able to discern what it's made of or what you could buy to replicate the recipe.

Or maybe even know where to buy it like which whole sale brand factory item etc.. would help me get one step closer to making or obtaining some thickshake goodness firsthand.

They definitely don't go to coles for the ingredients but a McDonald's staff might have a better idea what to buy if they wanted to make some at home than non McDonald's staff.

  • They still using the big arse round pan with the circular paper filter to filter the frying oil?

  • What maccaz menu items, did you used to eat, but now either don't eat at all now, or eat much less, after finding out how they are prepared and/or what is in them ?

My friend that worked there said he'd never drink a thickshake (or maybe it was soft serve ice cream) from there again, after finding out it is some pink paste that goes into machine to make the ice cream like substance

    • it is not a pink paste, more like a dairy/creamy/milky liquid, white. then syrups are added inside the machine to create either the strawberry or chocolate flavour.

      • He must have seen the stuff mixed with strawberry perhaps.

        dairy/creamy/milky liquid,

Does it have anything dairy/milk ie. Kind of fresh. Or is it entirely some long life dairy-like liquid made from reconstituted type dairy or similar perhaps.

        • its kind of fresh if i remember correctly. it didnt have a long shelf life and had to remain refrigerated

    • I worked at maccas for 7 years. Finished early last year.

I still eat and drink everything I did before/during. There are things which I have never touched and still won't because of the lack of quality.

All day breakfast for one. May vary store to store, but despite a lot of people wanting muffins during the day, basically nobody actually orders them. This means ingredients sit in the UHC for ages. Eggs get rubbery. Muffins go stale. I'd usually cook new muffins but the eggs had to suffice if we were busy and didn't have time to cook more. Every item in the cabinet has a holding time but those times are only adhered to when maccas management is in the store scrutinizing every detail.

Grilled chicken (used to be called Seared chicken in my day). Again; sits there for ages. I'd only ever have it fresh.

Anything you order past 10pm is probably going to be terrible. If there is only one person working in the kitchen overnight, they're going to be trying to get everything cleaned; not worrying about fresh ingredients. They will cook up a few trays of stuff when it's not busy then use those throughout the night.

A friend of mine (who also worked there) always asks for no ice when he orders because he has seen the ceiling of the ice machine while cleaning it and saw mould; so there's that.

after finding out it is some pink paste that goes into machine to make the ice cream like substance

Don't know about that. Unless it's done while cleaning the machine overnight.

  • I'm curious to know which oil does McDonalds use for frying. I remember seeing 'Our fries are 100% Halal' at Dubai international airport a couple of years ago so curious to know if fries at McDonalds are non-vegetarian,

I’d like to add - at my Maccas and the ones I’ve been to, if you request for something fresh, we’ll make it fresh, if you’re willing to wait.

Want a McChicken fresh, we’ll cook fresh chicken and your burger will be made when the chicken is ready.

Want a cheeseburger fresh, we’ll put down a fresh patty

  • Which country produces the big Mac sauce?
