  • Which one is better? NZ vs Tasmania?
I am leaning towards Tasmania on holiday next year.

    • +3

Tassie is cheaper and less driving involved.

NZ (well South Island) is Tassie on a grander scale ;)

    • Depends on what you're after.

Tassie will probably be cheaper. NZ is bigger and a lot more diverse scenery. How long have you got, what were you after? (Hiking, driving, mountains, funny accents, love of Dave Dobbin?)

      • Looking for hiking, scenery, some outdoor activities with kids…
Been to Auckland, unimpressed as it just looks like little Sydney…

        • Same as in Sydney, visitors should arrive in Auckland and immediately leave to see the rest of the island. I don't mind Rotorua even though it stinks because I am interested in the thermal activity there. Coromandel is a good place to visit. But most of the North Island reminds me of places here.

South Island is something different altogether. Totally different scenery. If you live on the coast here, avoid the coast there. The best part was the drive down the center, especially in late September/October with snow still on top of the mountains, even at Milford Sound had some still :)

        • South Island is highly recommended for hiking, scenery and general outdoor activities. That's the great thing about New Zealand, you're only ever a 10 minute drive and you're away from the hustle and bustle of city life :D

        • yeah big cities everywhere are fairly similar.

I'd say south island NZ. flight into Christchurch or Queenstown, get a campervan and go on tour. walking up glaciers, hiking, kayaking, rafting through a glow worm cave, fjords. And the adventure sports if you're into that. absolutely beautiful landscape.

  • Mehh … so Christchurch then take another domestic to Auckland?

    • Well if you want, but there are so many nice places outside of Auckland ;)

      • Born and Raised in Auckland; why would I go to other places outside of Auckland ;)

        • +2

          Because Auckland sucks ;)
