Received Replacement Item, Original Not Picked up - When Do I Keep It?

I have a TV from a reputable brand that was replaced due to it having issues at times.

It's been in my loungeroom for 2 weeks now (65") and hasn't been picked up or them even scheduling a pickup since letting them know I received the replacement.

At what stage do I just keep it and use it in a spare room?

At what stage do i just keep it and use it in a spare room?

Honestly? As long as I'm sure I'm not gonna drop it and break it (or break it in any other way), I'd be using it in a spare room already.

    • ^This. If they want it they will let you know.

If you have proof that you have informed them to pick it up, then just keep waiting for them to pick up even if it's years.

    • They called me and said they were scheduling a pickup for Monday (2 weeks ago) as they saw my replacement was delivered.

you put in the spare room now and when and if they come to pick it up just just get it out of your spare room at the time. Easy.

  • Wonder what happens if they remember a few months down the track and find out you broke it accidently. Would you be responsible for that?

    • My thoughts exactly.

      • Technically yes. Practically I can't think of a single thing they could or would do even in that situation. Plus - I've owned about a dozen or so TVs and I don't think I've broken a single one, and I've dropped a fair few of them.

To be safe? Put it back into its original packaging and stash it somewhere.

Put it in the spare room now 'for safekeeping'

  • Call them in a few weeks and send an email to the caller confirming your notice. That you will throw out the old one if no one picks it up. That should work. Given them another week once you have done that. Then just take picture of tv and serial number and get rid of it if. Just seems ridiculus. Why didn't they pick the one one up at same time.

Send them an invoice for storage.

Put it straight to the pool room

  • I had a similar thing happen with a laptop, was a few years ago. It was 3 months back then. Here's a choice article for you that's a similar situation Link

    • Good article. I'd notify them in writing via email. Get their acknowledgement they replied and give them a month.

  • Well, It's been 3 months now - Mine now
