Can Lenovo IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL Run 4K Videos Smoothly?

Hi,
Can anyone please confirm if Lenovo IdeaCentre 510S-08IKL with Intel HD Graphics 630 will be able to run 4k videos smoothly in 4k monitor? Or do I need any low profile video card for it? The PSU is only 180W so not sure which graphics card will it support. Thanks.

  • Apparently yes:

If you have a laptop with an Intel 3rd Generation Core Series processor or newer, its Intel HD graphics chip can output to a 4K monitor or an internal 4K display. Considering that 3rd Gen CPUs came out in 2012, any modern laptop with a Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processor can go up to 4096 x 2304, which is actually a bit higher than 4K (3840 x 2160).

  • The on-board GPU is more than capable of 4K playback. You can always use a GT1030 should you want more performance.

The cards use a maximum of 30W so no problems running with the 180W PSU.

  • Just an update to the forum members who might be interested to know about this SFF upgrade options:

    • Graphics card upgrade-

The PSU is 180W. So GT1030 low profile is an option if you want to use graphics card. But I haven't tried it yet. Builtin Intel HD 630 can show 4k or 2k with 30Hz refresh rate. I am using a 2k monitor with 30 Hz. This SFF has HDMI version 1.4 which cannot play 2k/4k with 60 Hz . But if you upgrade your graphics then you will be able to use 60Hz.

    • SSD upgrade-

There's 1 free SATA M.2 slot, 3 SATA data port (1 used by 2TB HD, 1 for optical drive and 1 free) but only 2 SATA power port (1 used by 2TB HD, 1 for optical drive). So you may want to use a SATA power splitter cable if you want to use an extra SATA HD. But I couldn't find enough space in the bay to place this extra SATA HD or to place SATA drive mount bracket.
But I used the SATA M.2 slot by using a PCIe NVMe SSD drive to upgrade my storage.

    • RAM upgrade:

There's 1 free slot to use an extra DDR4 2400MHz memory.
