Halloween Sale: $150 off (Single $600 Instead of $750, Queen $900 Instead of $1050) @ Koala Mattresses

80
SCARE

Received an email from them with not much more info than that. From the name I assume it expires on the 1st of November.

Useful if you missed one of the previous deals, and slightly higher than the referral discount. I don't believe it stacks with referrals.

As far as I can tell these mattresses are always on sale for the prices you have indicated above. Have they ever truely been on proper sale?

    • When I bought one last year I couldn’t find a promo code and contact customer service didn’t help. They are on sale a lot, but not always. And not always $150 off.

  • I have a severe back pain, is this good? I bought Sealy Exquite Qeen Medium ($2.5k after 50% off) no good at all!

    • It comes with a 120-night return policy, best to see if its any good yourself.

I bought my son one of these mattresses and it's so comfortable haha, I was in need of a new mattress so I bought the king today

  • anyone tried these, am tempted but suspect its more (hot)air than comfy mattress…

    • I’m very happy with it. They’ll pick it up for free if you’re not happy.

    • We have one and have found it quite comfortable

We've had a king size one since early 2018 and it has been great. Delivered to our door, you get some cheap koala stuffed toy with it which the kids thought was awesome, and have found the mattress to be really comfortable. No regrets at all.

    • I've got one and it is good if you like a firm mattress

    • they have them on display at myer now, so you can try them out

I saw something on Reddit (I think) about how these were $100 cheaper a week or two ago, then the price was jacked up and this discount came out? I could be wrong, but might be worth looking into if you wanted to buy.

    • The post has been deleted, but my RSS feed still retains the address: https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/9s7msu/psa_the_k… . Also see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/402541 which was mentioned in the comments. Not sure on the accuracy of these claims.

      • Yeah I could be totally wrong, I haven’t fact checked it.

      Hi there!
Just wanted to clarify that this is not true.
We did increase our prices for a short period of time (6 weeks only) back in May 2018.
I have added some more details about this further down the page in another reply :)
      Thanks!

  • Not sure about these, but we have Ecosa in our bedroom and have had it for about 8 months now. Probably the best mattress I have slept on (I prefer firm ones).

Some people have said that they got hot during summer, but we have had no issues (we live in Brisbane)

Also, like someone else mentioned above, these go on sale every week!

    • wow….Ecosa was the worst mattress I have ever owned. it was too firm to sleep on.

      • You can flip the 3 layers around! have you tried that??

  • I was looking at mattresses yesterday and searched here and other places. There were a number of recommendations for reporting these guys to (I think) the ACCC for their advertising practices. The $X off sale always coincides with the original price rising by $X. They're never sold at the higher advertised price, which makes their claims rather against the regulations apparently.

      Hey there!
So one of the reasons we started Koala was to bring transparency to the mattress industry, so we definitely do not intend to mislead.

      • Throughout the first half of 2018, the Queen was $1050, with a standard sales discount of $100 off this, if you gave us your email.
      • In early May we saw a significant increase in the price of our base materials passed on from our suppliers. We then responded to this by putting the price up by $100 to $1150 (before the standard sales discount)
      • In the latter half of June we saw this material cost come back down, and in a commitment to providing great prices to our customers, this was reflected in us lowering the customer price.
- To do this we first ran a $200 off special in June on the $1150 price, which made the total price $950.
- After this sale, we readjusted the price to our original price of $1050 (before discount)

      • We are now running a $150 off sale. We have promoted this same $150 off discount a number of times this year through other promotions.

(It was also the same amount last year for Halloween)

  • Yea didn't like the Koala, felt cheap and started to sag very quickly.
Currently trying the OneBed as it was the cheapest, but going to return it as it is a tad too firm.

So going to try the Eva next. I think it will be OK but I do worry there might be too much partner disturbance.
    Anyone tried the Eva?

    • I have an Eva, it is on the firmer side; which is to my preference.

in terms of partner disturbance, it will not pass the glass of wine test.

  • Have had our Eva a few weeks now. So far so good and I have a stuffed back.

I have gotten in and out of bed and my wife has not even noticed (could say something about our marriage!) and I have not felt her get out a couple of times as well.

Construction seems to be pretty good.

Yes, it is firm but I am expecting it to soften a little after a few months.

  • I tried one of these and found it too hard for my liking. I suffer from occasional lower back pain and this mattress made it worse. Trial and return policy is great and they collected it after a week of requesting the return. Have now purchased a sleeping duck (medium) and it is amazing. A lot of people prefer hard beds for back pain but I get much better sleep out of the sleeping duck.

bedinabox.com = cozybed.com.au look the same as Koala to me, come packaged the same, but they're $750 for queen with their everlasting $300-off codes. The code is always at the top of the website.

  • In Sydney they have one in Myer to try our (not sure about nationwide). Last time they had the same discount got the Koala rep in store to match and then used Myer gift cards. Overall mattress is great and super comfy (if you enjoy firm).

Don't know why you would go with Koala instead of zzAtelier on ebay.

I think it was Koala who made some marketing video of people going around pissing off the staff in IKEA. really turned me off ever using them.

    • Tell me more about zzAtelier. Do they have a trial period? can you try the mattress in store to test it? Price seems good but not sure of the claims.

      • eBay and cheap. no refunds. We are using ours and it's comfortable. No idea of long term quality though sorry.

  • I'm upvoting purely for the somewhat realistic depiction of a bedroom.

  • Tried one of these in Myer Sydney last weekend, I was shocked they are around $1000. They look and feel really cheap.

  • -1

That’s because they are mate. Koala still gets the same 100’s of % markup on a product that costs bugger all to produce. Remember they’re a marketing company first and a mattress company second.

    • +1

      That’s simply not true.
Our mattresses are made here in Australia, using premium foams and cost a lot more than bugger all to manufacture and deliver.

We’re a growing furniture company, marketing is a part of it but it’s not everything.
The fact that we have a 120-night trial means it’s ultimately up to the person taking our trial to then decide if it’s right for them after they have slept on it (literally)

      • Is that you, Blinky Bill, ?
