Lebanese Charcoal Chicken in Melbourne?

Recently moved down from Sydney to Melbourne but can't find any decent charcoal chicken places in Melbourne. Anyone know of any?

I'm talking like el jennah or anar charcoal chocken style with the chicken really charcoal crispy with pickles and bread.

Please let me know! I don't want to fancy restaurant stuff either - that takeaway style.

Let me know if you would like me to post some from Sydney :p

    • Omg I thought I had a stroke. Any relation between you and user "El Grande"?

      • Yes they are my brothers wifes uncles step mothers adopted great great grandchild.. but we are not that close.

No sorry, just a random coincidence.

    • For sure.. I know people who actually takeaway whole chickens to bring overeas…

If only they were a franchise..

      • I moved down last year as well and it’s the one thing I truly missed about Sydney. The closest thing (which really isn’t close at all) is Spanish chicken and garlic dip from my local deli

  • I like some bogan birds

Nah. Not even close. I had a look at that thread, nothing to close to El jennah style. I wonder if people ever had that, they would be blown away.

To clarify the the way the chicken os cooked on charcoal is different, its spread out first so its more crispy and charcoaly.

Plus with pickles and bread included instead of the standard chips aussie style.

Google el jennah to see for youself.

Oh - you don't need to tell me about how good El Jannah's is hahaha. It's incredibly out of the way for me but I'll still drive there every few months just for the chicken. And their garlic sauce.

      • Purple pickles

  • Can't vouch for taste or the quality of chicken but I believe this is the kind of cooking you are looking for: https://www.zomato.com/melbourne/al-hana-charcoal-chicken-co… (Have a look at the photos of the menu and servings)

Mind you it's a small shop and definitely not as flashy as El Jannah

    • Looked at the link, photos looks like what i want and got my hopes up as i past that area before.

Then googled it and it says permanently closed. Sad.

      Cmon Melbourne!

  • Ceddos on high St
Ashburton. Ask for extra crispy chips!
    Not lebbo tho.

  • lol, not hipster enough for melbourne, they'll give you a raw chicken and some charcoal and get you to cook it yourself

    • So korean bbq then? Lol

  • Not sure about chicken but got El Jannah style garlic sauce/dip from http://zaatar.com.au/. Cafe in Sydney road Coburg.

  • There's a restaurant on Sydney Road, Coburg called "To-Gather". The whole family loves it.

You get good tasty charcoal chicken with Lebanese bread, pickles, hummus, garlic sauce, baba ganoush, one of the best fries etc.

Do try it out. I'm sure you will enjoy.

  • Revisiting this. My wish came true after 4 years and it was delicious:)

    • I moved down to Melb as well and really miss it, please share the one you found (I need a break from Banh Mi). I started making the brined bbq chicken but a little time consuming when you are hungry.

El jennah open in preston. Was from sydney and its the best.

        • Hell yea….. Ill be making a trip specificaly for that.

  • Oh this sounds like the Afghan place we went to recently in Adelaide on Hindley st on a work trip. Amazing. Meat on charcoal, place filled with smoke, and they cooked the flat bread in a legit tandoor. I hadn’t seen one outside of India until then. None of that tasteless processed rotating upright kebab shite. If there’s any place like this in Melbourne, I’m there.
