Cheapest data sim - in USA

Hi, my brother went to USA for few weeks.

I suggested him to buy a sim in USA itself as we may get cheaper options for new customers (like Kogan here). He stay there for maximum 6 weeks..

So, any idea about mobile plans with good amount of data? (not a travel sim as he already reached).

Thanks in advance.

There are online companies like Kogan and belong where there are no physical stores and you need to order online. Since he will presumably be moving around that isn't going to be the most convenient I wouldn't think The USA doesn't really do prepaid in the same way we do. Their month-month plans are what he should be looking into.

While it isn't the cheapest, for his use, walking into a T-Mobile store is probably the best option. T-Mobile is similar to Optus and will give decent coverage pretty much everywhere. If he's doing a road trip, AT&T would be much better.

I have used the T-Mobile travel sim

      https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/prepaid/marketing/prepaid-inter…

And also a four week plan that gave 10gb of data for about 45 USD.

As knick007 said above, just walk into the T-Mobile shop and tell them what you need. I was in and out with a working sim in about 10 minutes. They even stuck my Australian sim to the receipt with tape for safe keeping for when I got back.

  • I've always used T-Mobile when travelling but if you;re looking for a cheaper option have a look at Sprint. I think they have unlimited data plans for like $50 but like all carriers over here they cap it so after a certain amount you get the rest a 2G

  • If you visit any of the mobile shops they generally sell a data plan for a month for overseas people. I went to New York and got one for 5 gbs with uncapped 3g after for like 30$.
