How to Turn off iDrive ACCEPT WARNING on BMW?

If anyone bought the bmw from this deal and found the iDrive accept warning screen annoying, have you figured out how to turn it off?

I had a look on the bmw forums and found for models with CD players you can buy the DVD-in-motion CD which comes with the software to disable it + play videos on your iDrive screen.

However mine doesn't have a CD player.

The only other way I found is through NCS coding but it looks a bit lengthy and apparently not the faint hearted and I think could affect the warranty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7lpkB_AuTY

i don't think anyone else bought one, they just voted up for the comments, and 1 person that did buy it , worked at westpac, just just got fired..

    • I've seen a few on the road. It's a pretty good deal despite the jokes.

When discounted it's much cheaper than their competitor Mercedes-Benz C class which rarely goes on discount but has higher sales.. I went to them end of season and month and they could only do max 2% discount. Audi also couldn't do a big enough discount compared to that deal.

Plus for those that like doing some mods to their cars (black kidney grills), shadow gloss black trims and M-series body kit it saves a couple grand + DIY work.

The only bad thing is in dodgy areas people try to key/damage your car. Luckily I have a polisher to buff them out.

What did BMW say when you asked them?

I never asked them, I was thinking it'll raise some eyebrows and some legal issues with them

      • Why would is raise any eyebrows? It's your car, not theirs.

        • Because if they turn it off and you crash while playing with your radio screen you could then sue them (ei american lawsuit)

          • @k-rokfm: They don't have to actually do anything for OP. The dealer can't arrest him either (which is what OP makes it sound like).

          • @k-rokfm: Thankfully we don't live in America and people don't sue others for fun here.

Try not to park your new BMW opposite a petrol station for weeks on end too yeah?

    • But the surrounding business' have CCTV footage?

  • I got the deal as well but yet to be delivered. Is it really that annoying? Heaps of driving based electronics have tin plating disclaimers. Just a part of modern life.

    • I find it quite annoying as I just want to get in and drive - view the map

  • What's the warning message anyway? I'm curious.
On Mazda 3 cars it has a warning message about not using the screen while driving, but it goes away by itself after a few seconds so it's no big deal.
Does it require you to press Ok? Does it come up more than once when the engine's running?

    • Same message, but it doesn't go away you need to accept it. Comes up only once.

I just swap mine with 2009 Corolla and I got no warning no more.

    • Until you fit an aftermarket head unit with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto…

The only way to do this is to code it out. The original software to do this is called "e-SYS". This is free, and then it's just a $20 "ENET" ethernet to ODB cable from eBay and you're ready to go.

Or perhaps not, as it's not for the faint hearted and it is actually possible to brick your car (but warnings are plentiful on what NOT to do). Took me weeks of reading up and cross referencing multiple resources before I got the courage to try it on my 1 (F20) series.. but all went well and I have a much more user friendly car as I did much more than just remove the disclaimer.

Unfortunately, there is no complete start-to-end-follow-these-steps-no-need-to-think tutorial for e-SYS coding, and because the stakes are pretty high (bricking your high yield investment) you'll need to do some study. Here are some useful links:

    http://bmw-f-coding.blogspot.com/2016/04/how-to-use-e-sys-en…

    https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1228316
    https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=175

Using the ENET cable and e-SYS software works for all F series cars: F20 (1 series), F30 (3 series), F10 (5 series) too so advice can be read across forums. I did mine about 18 months ago and honestly have forgotten the exact steps I took.

Just had a search around and seems there are other coding methods:

    http://support.mycarly.com/article-categories/carly-for-bmw/

These are bound to be easier to use than the e-SYS method as they are app based and seem to use a wifi dongle in your ODB port. Not sure how extensive and effective they are but I might take a look myself next time I'm ready to code..

Agree your BMW dealer will take a dim view of removing the disclaimer. But I have heard of some other mods done by BMW mechanics (eg stop/start memory enabled) but you'd probably need to be chummy with your dealer to get such a thing done..

    • Absolute legend thanks for the write up

warning screen annoying, have you figured out how to turn it off?

    We normally use a digit.

  • I feel a VW Arteon would have been a better buy at that price point.

    • Not sure about the areton but our family has a volks golf which has had engine and gearbox issues after 3 years just when warranty expired, same thing happened to my friends Tiguan and in some posts in the forum volks doesn’t seem reliable and has also a lot of problems but at the sale price point that makes up for 20k extra for an upgraded Mercedes which has better reliability. The best is Lexus and the newer porche’s in terms of reliability, but porche is too high price and the Lexus sedans aren’t too appealing. We have a Lexus suv which has no issues 10 years of driving.

Have you tried just leaving it on the side of the road near your local service station for months?

    • That's OP next post one he's fried the cars computer to get rid of start up message.
Do you think I can get another hit-run at servo to claim insurance on my bricked BMW?

Except this time police will investigate it…

      • Or how OP used rain repellent on their windscreen, but when it rained, they crashed their car into a parked car, because nowhere on the bottle of RainX did it say that you have to still use your wipers…

    • No sir, but I see you have nothing else better to do than to mock anonymously online.

Your post history is funny. Not entirely convinced that you aren't trolling.
