Bank transfer from NZD to AUD (New Zealand to Australia)

HI all,

Me and a travel mate are going to Hong Kong and hiring an airbnb. I'll pay for it since I have $100 Airbnb Credit but was wondering how to settle the amount since I will be billed in AUD and he has only a New Zealand bank account (being based in New Zealand). I have in Australia: ING Direct, NAB Classic and Citibank Plus account. There is a inwards transfer fee for NAB Classic but there is none for Citibank PLus - is that correct?

Is services such as https://transferwise.com/nz/ safe, fast and efficient?

Thanks for any help

Yep. It is quite easy. Ask your mate to setup a transferwise account. Setup a recipient,ie. you with your AU bank account number. When your mate setup a transaction, your mate will need to transfer money into Transferwise's local NZ bank account, once it has cleared, they will send the money to you in AUD into your AU bank account. Simples.

If he can get an equivalent no international fee NZ account surely he can pay for say, dinner and drinks one night maybe an uber back to the air bnb and that should have him covered?

    Otherwise, transferwise would work fine.

Why not get him to pay you in HKD when you get there??? Saves paying conversion fees twice

    • Best idea, you'll need spending money anyway

  • Pretty sure airbnb allows you to split the cost with other guests staying. Assuming that the overall cost is going to be greater than $100, that may be an option - or just wait to you catch up in person in Hong Kong.

    • As of september last year AirBNB no longer offer accomodation splitting.

We ended up using transferwise which was fast, efficient and cheap.

  • Just get him to pay you in HKD when you're there since you'll probably be spending that anyway?
