Am I Allowed to Use a Portable BBQ on a Beach?

I'd like to use my portable gas BBQ on a beach in Melbourne. Anyone know if this is allowed?

  • Sand + BBQ is a terrible idea.

      Extra crunchy.

    • Yeah would make sure the wind conditions don't make your BBQ too sandy.

  • Try it and report back

I don't know the answer but I've seen plenty of Australian cooking shows where they are bbqing on the beach.

  • Don't do it if there is a total fire ban

contact the city council and ask.

BBQ up some shrimps mate… Then throw em on any attractive young bikini clad females as they go past ;)

  • Maybe Altona beach or similar

    • This is from Port Phillip Council -

Can I use my BBQ on the beach?

We don't support the use of portable gas BBQs or charcoal burners on the beach in the City of Port Phillip.

We encourage you to instead use the existing free public BBQs found in the public reserves along the grass area of the foreshore.

Fires and coal fire pits are not permitted on the beach.

Thanks Baysew. It doesn’t sound like it’s banned from that, however - it says they ‘don’t support’ it, but it doesn’t say you can’t. And even though they encourage us to use the free ones, that’s neat, but I also encourage my boss to supply a half decent instant coffee at work. Doesn’t mean he will…
