Telstra Family & Friends: Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB + 30GB Data + Peace of Mind Data - $69/Month (24 Month Contract)

2140

Heya ozbargainers,

First deal, hopefully I'm doing it right…

Telstra are now offering Family and Friends deals again, similar to last year when they did the S8, Pixel etc. It's not advertised anywhere but I was just offered this in store, thought it might be of interest to some.

  • $69 p/m for 24m, Samsung Galaxy S9 64GB, unltd calls/txts, 30GB data plus Peace of Mind Data included (normally $10 extra p/m).

The closest plan currently on their site is $89 with 20gb data and without peace of mind, so this is good value for Telstra.

Another deal they had is:

Choose from Samsung Galaxy S8, Pixel 2 XL 64GB, Oppo R15 Pro, iPhone 6S 32GB.

Available to new services, port-ins and telstra pre-paid customers.

*$10 port-in credit may apply for new customers
*These are NOT lease plans. You will own the device on both options.

Cheers

I was advised this deal will be made available to recontracting customers during Dec 6-9th only.

    • You should 100% repost now that it’s available to reconstracting. Thank you, I took advantage of this deal without having to mess about with porting.

      • I was hoping to just update this post but I can no longer edit it.

        Mods, any way around it?

        • Also got an email from Telstra advertising this deal today, with the following T&C:
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW: $69 offer: Available to new and recontracting customers until 25 December.

          • @Soothsayer: I upgraded my contract (existing customer) today and got home, read all this, had a spew on live chat and got the $10 discount and 5gb bonus data as well. Have confirmed the offer is available to a friend porting in from Vodafone at the same price/deal.

    • Deleted Too slow

  • Got online yesterday and asked if I were eligible for a $10 port in and 5gb bonus. The online agent said she would check the account and came back and said yes, no problems. Today I've missed a call from telstra leaving new a message to say that there's a problem with my new order……haven't called back yet. But looks like I wont be getting the extras. Ah well. All I did was ask the question.

    • Did you find out what the issue was? I got online today and got $10 credit for s9 as well. I totally forgot about 5gb bonus but that doesn't matter since I use only 1-2GB per month. Hope $10 stays.

      • Hey fishy just an update, called back telstra and somehow the online chat agent stuffed up the 5gig bonus. The telstra rep I spoke to said I'd get everything that was promised in the chat. Just got my latest bill, and it now includes the $10 port in and 5gig bonus data. So anyone who has already signed up to this deal (now expired), should definitely get online and try out for the 2 bonuses

  • FYI this is also available at Jbhifi family and friends deal world square sydney.
I got the s9 where they also had the pixel and iphone alternatives for the same deal on display.

  • got the s9 with contracting again and also got 5gb bonus data and free international calling pack included.

    • how so?

      • Its advertised on the website for 69 a month.https://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/employee-family-friends-offer
The rep said its is not available to existing customers but then she got permission from her manager to allow it. Then i asked her what she can do for loyalty discount and she offered me 5gb extra but i asked for free international pack and she added both to my new plan.

        • did you get a free google home mini?

          • @jrandello: I am not sure but its standard offer so i guess i will get it if not then will chase them up.

  • My original plan with the S9. I have a $44 Vodafone SIM only plan and was going to buy an Australian stock S9 off Ebay for around $800 (cheaper if I can).
Do you think this deal would be worth the $150 exit fee from Vodafone?

    • +1

You will paying $77.33 a month with 800/24 = 33.33 and $44 for phone plan

You will save about $8 a month which will be $192 savings

$192-$150 = 42 better off on better network overall.

Also if you chat you may get $10 port over credit or i got free international pack which i have more usage.

So you may save/ extra benifits of $240 over 2 years

Or if you don't need international pack then you can go with jb offer https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/jb-mobile/

      • Thanks so much for that, looks like it's a good deal. What is the best way to get the Port in credit? Buy in store first or buy online?

  • Merged from Samsung Galaxy S9 (64GB) + Google Home Mini: Unlimited Calls & Text + 30GB Data 24 Months Plan $69/ Month @ Telstra
    Go to Deal

Get 30GB and no excess data charges PLUS a bonus
Google Home Mini, all for $69/mth.

Min cost $1,656 over 24 mths. Data for use in Aus.

30GB/mth (20GB +10GB bonus data) to use in Australia.
No excess data charges with Peace of Mind Data included.
Unlimited calls & texts to standard Australian numbers.

    • Good Deal considering existing customers can take this deal as well. I am waiting for Telstra iPad deal like last year $15 + $5 data share sim.

      • Telstra don't do consumer data share sims anymore so i doubt any new iPad offer will be as good as the previous iPad deal.

      • They just offered me a Samsung tablet 8.0 2017 32GB for $20 a month with 15GB. Doubt that helps you as you are asking for a IPAD but it may be coming

Just to let everyone know, the $10 credit is now applicable to this deal which brings it to $59 - offer ends 25 Dec

      • +1

        At $59 that’s super tempting

How do I get the $10 off

        • You'll need to ask the consultant - tell them that you know the $10 credit is now eligible and you want it applied (it previously was not eligible but they changed it a few days ago)

      • Do you have any details on this extra $10 off?
Think I'll snap this offer up at that price.

        • I don't want to share it publicly just in case, but I'll just say that I have viewed the internal Telstra comms that says the $10 credit has been extended to include this $69 S9 deal

          • @portard: Fair enough, I'm actually not familiar with the $10 credit at all. Is this something you generally get through online support?

            • @Peekay: It should be both online & in-store.

Sometimes I find online consultants really inconsistent, some will give you the deal and some will not - so I would probably go in-store if online won't give it to you

              • @portard: Is it a port in credit? Or just a random $10 credit?

      • Wonder if JB Hi Fi will make it sweeter with giftcards on top of potential $10 port-in credit.

        • Doubt it mate, ex JB guy here.

          • @solidussnake: fair enough mate, thought since it's not a F&F only offer, they might chip in with giftcards. Decent deal for $59/month though.

      • Any chance you know what the current end date of the offer is?

    • I ordered this a few days ago, telstra sent me out 3 s9 phones and 3 Google home minis and a prepaid phone for some reason

      • And 3 bills for $69 each for 24 months?

    • This or the P20 pro? Decisions.

      • Which one is more likely to sell quickly?

        • It would have to be S9…Gumtree is flooded with new P20 Pros from last deal and now, since they have re-activated that deal, it would only get worse.

  • +2

Just to let everyone know, the $10 credit is now applicable to this deal which brings it to $59 - offer ends 25 Dec

    • Oh great! Do you need to ask for it or is it automatic?

      • Depends on the consultant, if they don't offer it to you (sometimes they are trained to only offer it as a last resort to secure the sale), then definitely ask.

  • Thanks mate. You might want to update that $10 credit is now applicable - both for porting and new numbers. I got the deal for $59 per month!

    • Can you provide ref No? Much appreciated.

      • Jump on live chat and they will give you even better deal. I didn't take the photo of the chat but an hour ago I was offered with $10 port in credit PLUS additional 5GB.

  • Exsiting client successfully added $10 credit by online chat.

    • Ditto today. Got $69 in store, complained on live chat when I got home and saw this, was bumped to $59 + 5gb.

  • Got the $10 port in credit last night, thanks all for your help! Now to wait for them to port my number over….

  • So I just signed up with Amaysim today because I was after a particular phone number.
How long do I need to wait before getting Telstra to port the number over on this deal? Do I need to receive the Amaysim SIM card in the mail first or should I be right to go almost immediately?

    What's everyone's experience been like?

Just to confirm as well, should be able to get the Samsung Galaxy S9 (64GB) + Google Home Mini: Unlimited Calls & Text + 30GB Data 24 Months Plan for $59 now with the $10 credit that is going?

    • +1

As long as you have account number and phone number you should be fine.

And yes, that's correct. I think others are also receiving an extra 5GB, but I received everything you've mentioned above.

      • works for existing telstra as well?

        • I'm not sure, I ported over. But someone above has said they were an existing client and received the deal.

          • @bennie07: apparently not for me. i am on byo … online chat saying only for new or port in.

            • @bluebluebird: Could always try a few different consultants until one will do it!

  • Ive just been advised that the S9 is currently on back order. They will still sign you up to thr contract but have no ETA on the handset at the moment.

Btw, ive asked two consultants about the $10 discount and both have flaty said there is no further discount applicable to this deal and that inckudes new customers.

    • Also, this was a recontract for me and they did it no questions asked. My existing byo contract still had a few months to run.

  • Anyone know what the current end date of the offer is?

    • +1

      21st Jan

  • Hi guys, I've tried 3 different online operators and they told me that the $10 Port in credit is no longer available and no extras. Can someone else who has tried to get on this deal recently be able to confirm this?

    • I ordered mine on the 3rd of Jan, $10 credit per month, existing customer.

I cant find this deal on the Telstra website anymore.

    • Also just signed up to another S9 and got $10 credit and 5gb a month, $59 with 35gb total

      All done via chat.

      • hey @re5pect08 what sort of stuff did you say to steer conversation to get the $10 and 5gb bonous? Were you able to get the home mini?

      • Like @Leonart I am also wondering how you managed to score the $10 credit each month @re5pect08? Any tips or advice you can provide would be awesome. I am currently on a BYO contract with a few months to go, best I could manage to get offered was the extra 5GB, one online consultant offered that, other didn't offer any extras. Thanks mate

  • Also I just was able to get it done with the 5GB + $10 credit, but I got a text saying my order was stopped. On the phone with them now. Well waiting anyway.

    • Any news on your order @Leonart? Curious to know how you managed to get the $10 credit, were you a existing customer recontracting?

      • Hey Matt,

I tried about 6 or 7 different operators. All the while, I was saying a 'friend got it on the 7th , due to porting over it was 59/mo' . I am porting from optus/virgin. Many said it wasn't a thing, even the deal at $69/month wasn't a real thing some were aware of. When one finally agreed I also asked if there was a 5gb bonous that could be added and they agreed. Submitted order. Im talking to online chat right now about the order being stopped/cancelled. Hope it goes through >.<

        • Thanks mate. Sounds like you had to go through quite a bit of hassle to get to them to agree to it. Looks like if you are porting over you can get the credit if you keep asking, unfortunately I would be recontracts so not looking like I can get it :(

Fingers crossed you can get your ordered all sorted in store and get the phone.

  • Okay so, basically cancelled (but they said I can just go into store to fix the issue), because of suspected fraud- Im a student and I study in QLD. I told them my address was in the NT (where Im from, and I had moved house before updating my documents etc.) , but delivery address was QLD. And so they thought I was being fraudulent. Will try go to the shop tomorrow to rectify it by providing documents, and they said I could just pick up the phone from the store.

  • Today at telstra I queried if the f+f $69 S9 deal was still available and they said yes until the 21St.
I'm currently out of contact from my old f+f plan (which now no longer exists) and confirmed if I was eligible to sign up which I was told yes but the sales rep said that there is no insurance on the phone on that plan.
But on the standard $89 plan there is.

Can anyone shed any light on this?
