7 Wonders Board Game $19.99 @ Toyworld (In-Store Only)

1600

First time poster, long time lurker so be gentle.

Bought this at Chadstone Toyworld but available at all Victorian Toyworld shops. $45 in Queensland (no price match) - thanks Winterysky. Not sure if deal is offered in other states.
Always wanted to try this game so bought one for myself and another as a gift. Probably about 7-8 boxes when I left. The display box has a dinged edge but heaps of good copies sitting at the top of shelf (need a stool to retrieve). Excellent price given that most are listed at >$50 elsewhere. Don't think other shops will price match as this is way too cheap (haven't tried but others are welcome to). Not sure about authenticity but given that it's a proper store, would think they would stock legit copies. Personally I am quite satisfied with the quality of the components.

The game isn't listed on the Toyworld website so I've uploaded the receipt for reference.

Chadstone, Elsternwick, Docklands, Forest Hill, Mornington, Highpoint, Eastland (Ringwood) - Out of stock
Werribee 1 elusive copy), Epping, Northland, Greensborough, Carolyn Springs - still available
(based on everyone's comments below)

Great price for a great boardgame.

    Are these in Sydney anywhere?

You may be able to check if they're legit with the info here: https://imgur.com/a/d05yi

Thanks. Just inspected my copy. Components look pretty legit to my untrained eye

Why on earth would Toyworld sell fake copies of a game? Seems a rediculouw claim.

    • +12

OP isn't claiming Toyworld is selling fakes, they're just commenting that the price is so cheap that it is enough to give pause (it really is ridiculously cheap - if I saw the game selling for this price online, I'd be very suspicious of its authenticity). Personally I think a retail store like this would be selling genuine copies.

      • The game isn't listed on their website so they're probably just clearing stock cheap.

Would love one of these but no Toyworlds nearby.

      • I stand corrected - some game groups I'm in (oz board games sale & trade, oz games shopper groups) have bought them and think they might be fakes, though good ones. Helpful comparison link https://imgur.com/a/d05yi. They found no issue with image centering on the board/tokens like in the link, but comparing side-to-side found that the colour contrast was lower (genuine one looks more vibrant). However there was also a bit of discussion that maybe it is just a different/older edition of the game.

The part that stood out for me was the quality of the plastic insert. Seems super thin and crumpled.

        • +1

The copy I bought was missing cards. Definitely counterfeit. Going to get them to replace it.

    • +4

You'd be surprised by all the fake copies of board games out there - I didn't believe it when I first read about it either, but I saw photos comparing genuine vs fake copies on boardgamegeek.

      • I realise there are fakes. But this is a retail store with genuine supplier. Not some online pop up with no address.

        • +1

Retail stores can sell fakes as well… Not every supplier is legit as you'd expect, and sometimes people just get fooled.

It would be rare for a retail store to be buying direct from the 1st party, especially for something like this.

        • +1

Unfortunately they have been confirmed to be fakes. This deal was posted in a boardgame group on Facebook yesterday and people have bought and compared to genuine copies and have confirmed so.

Upvote for the L-plater. Good first post.

  • Are Toywold and Mr Toys Toyworld the same thing?

edit: looks like they kind of are?

Kawana store on Sunshine Coast has none.

They've now added a couple more to the shelf.

      • +1

There is two toyworld's in Werribee Plaza. There is plenty of stock (at least 6) in the old "toys r us" toyworld store.

  • I've never seen a copy at the Highpoint store.

thanks for the update. was going to go and check there.

I just called my local Toyworld (Upper Mt Gravatt, Brisbane) and they said it was $45 and won't price match VIC.

    • Thanks for letting us know (I'm also BNE local). $45 is actually pretty cheap for 7 wonders new though, it's usually $60-$70 (boardgamesearch.com.au)

  • None at Elsternwick

  • They had 3 after my purchase 20 mins ago in Epping. They said they are selling out very fast! Thanks OP!

    • Saves me the trip - thanks :)

  • No Toyworld in Sydney? Really

  • None at Mornington.

Quickly being ozbargained. Every store said it was strange because all of a sudden they are getting lots of calls about 7 wonders.

    • +1

They don't know about "the professionals"

  • No Sydney stock or price matches?

  • +2

Bought one from Chadstone. I compared mine with the imgur link that was been posted and most seemed genuine however was just a bit concerned with the card quality.

    • The copy I bought were missing cards. Confirmed counterfeit. Going to get them to replace it.

  • 8 still available at werribee. 2 have a few marks on them but 6 on top shelf

    • Werribee stock system shows 1 left but they couldn’t find it. Looks like it got brodened

      • Did you go to the small shop in the new section or the large shop by Woolworths, used to be Toys R Us?

        • Near target so I assume the small one

          • @stirlo: They had stock at the large one so if you're after one it might be best to try that one.

            • @ynotrekab: Cheers
EDIT: Checked the other store, they also say they have 1 in stock but there’s none on the shelf and they don’t know where it is… oh well thanks for the help

  • 6 copies left at Northland

  • None at Eastland Ringwood (VIC).

  • If it's not too much trouble, would you be able to upload photos of the box and components for your copy of 7 Wonders?

  • +1

Thanks OP bought one from Chadstone, still 4 copies left on the shelf.

  • I called the Toyworld shop in Chadstone today and they said that they've seen this issue online. They've contacted the supplier and they confirmed that it was a genuine copy.

  • Got one yesterday at greensborough - they said only stored with stock were them and Carolyn Springs. Suggest you call.

  • None left n Chadstone

  • Couldn't find stock in WA metro
