PSN First Time Registration Advice

I've just purchased a PS4 (to play RDR2) and am considering signing up to the PlayStation Network. I haven't owned a PlayStation since PS2 more than a decade ago so I know nothing about PSN.

Is it worth signing up? Is the paid for service worth it for someone who doesn't have a lot of time for gaming, say 6-8 hours a week?
Is it worth jumping through the hoops to create a U.S. account? Or is the Australian store good enough?

I might purchase some of the indy/smaller games online, but will probably will stick to the disc version of the big triple A games so I can trade them in.

Thanks in advance

  • Really depends if you're going to play online games, to be honest.

    • Probably not. I have a PC that I play online multiplayer games

  • You should be able to get a 14 day free trial once you log in and sign up and all that. Is it worth it for all the garbage free games to me personally not really. But if you want to play online you need to get it.

Also, i couldn't find any discounts as i renewed my subscription recently. But good luck if you can.

  • Is it worth getting plus - look at the monthly games and decide yourself - i say yes

Make a main account in Australian region and make another in US region

And id jump on getting this bundle

    • Is that bundle only redeemable if you have a US account?

  • Just sign up for an PSN account anyway, even if you don't intend to buy anything or sign up for PS Plus.

I'm in same boat, and I have just the PSN account, no cost involved.
you can use it to buy specials from the PSN store occasionally, like I bought MGS:V complete pack for like $20.

I would wait for games to come to AUS, especially since we don't have the time to play them anyway.
I'll just impulsed bought (but still cheapest I could get them for) so many AAA games (just got the PS4 recently) that its going to last me ages based on the time I can spend playing them.
Reasonable method would be just play 1 or 2, and wait for the next one to come down in price.

  • 6-8 hours is a decent amount of time to sign up & play online. It is/nearly 1 hour a day roughly.

You also get free games every month to download & play.

  • Is it worth jumping through the hoops to create a U.S. account?

yes definitely and its not a lot of hoops really, you just need to select USA in the country selection and put in some fake info.

PS plus for 1 year in Indonesia is less than AUD $40 so that's something to look into considering RDR2 will have online play soon and you will need PS plus for that. With Ps plus, the games are sometimes worth it, sometimes not really but its still nice to have and especially when its less than $40 instead of the regular $80 at AU Store.

  • you used google??

    • You must be fun at conversating with people

    • No what's 'google'?
