There is no way I could justify spending close to $260 on one of these torches or full RRP for that matter. It carries the same form factor of many of the torches you see coming out of china which are significantly cheaper and put out comparable illumination, my father purchased an olight branded torch last year, he loves it but it has the same feel as the imports I mentioned previously. If I were to purchase one I would feel as though I am just paying the extra for a rebranded import.

    Just my opinion

Which torch has 12,000 lumens and is significantly cheaper?

If you like cheap unreliable torches by all means buy the cheapest rubbish but olight manufacture torches from the low to high end and all have the same high quality finish.

Agree with you on this, bought some cheap chinese lumen torch, claiming 9,500 lumens but real lumens like 1,000. So, it is definitely not same.

Whilst it's only 5000 lumen the BLF Q8 can be picked up for under $40 regularly on Amazon (you have to add 4*18650 protected cells for another $25) and they're quite good build quality.

      • Quoted lumens are always up for debate but the main point I was trying to get across is that whilst this torch may be more expensive side by side with a "cheap unreliable one" the feel is not significantly different. When you compare to Ledlenser, pelican or streamlight the difference in quality can definitely be seen and felt.

Then you certainly couldn't justify spending a lot more on German Lupine torches.

This are great but only super high lumens for a few mins

it goes down to 3000 lumens so really better off getting a cheaper 3000 lumen torch for much cheaper

actually the brightness stepdown is shocking

    • You can run it on 7000 lumens for 12+ minutes.

Can't you just tape a bunch of smaller torches together?

    • +2

259 $1 torches should do it

  • I agree with irate pirate the blur q8 5000 I got from amazon is good value

  • I think I asked this before but I don't think I ever got an actual answer. WHAT USE does anyone have for a torch so powerful that it comes with a:

    distance sensor for safety

    ?

        Walking the dog

Because the dog is afraid of the dark…?

No but seriously. 12 thousand lumens.

        • +3

Same like why people buy a million dollar car, when they won't get quicker to the destination since the speed limit on roads. They could just get a normal car and still get there at the same time. Some people buy it just coz they can. Everyone is different. You don't have to buy it.

        • Because the dog is afraid of the dark…?

What if the dog gets off the lead?
What if a child has gotten lost?
What if there is a gang? (for the Victorians)
What if someone has had an accident?

There are a million reasons why a high powered torch can be useful, but there are plenty of people out there that are hopeless and rely of others when something happens so I shouldn't expect everyone to see the usefulness in going prepared.

No but seriously. 12 thousand lumens.

You don't have to use them! I have plenty of powerful torches and I generally run them on lower power but I have the option of using higher power if the situation arises.
