[Resolved] Affiliation Links

Has something with Affiliation Links changed?

It doesn't bother me but the wiki says ony guests will see then but I am being shown affiliation links even when logged in.

Is something broken or does the wiki need changing?

First of all, affiliate links will only be shown to non-logged-in users. For users that are currently logged into OzBargain, affiliate links will never be shown. The following only applies to guest users who are not currently logged into OzBargain.

  • i've seen it but it doesn't bother me because at the end of the day, it will cost me the same price

  • Has something with Affiliation Links changed?

    Not that I'm aware of.

Do you have an example of which deal are you seeing the affiliate link?

  • Yeah. Please share a place where you see it. When you are logged in

    • Do you see the extra visual clues similar to the one demonstrated here?
    • Or you don't get shown the extra visual clue, but the links redirect to an affiliate link?

Neither should happen when you are logged in. In this case it might be someone else submitting an aff link.

    • Do you see the extra visual clues similar to the one demonstrated here?

yes i see those (http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/09/01/4350_ozbargain-afflin…) 1st image(one on left), every now and then, not the ones on the front page but when i click the deal(near the tags)

i'll post one up if i see one

      • I think it might be happening on the Store Profile block, because that's about the only thing that's cached on a deal page.

For example, a guest lands on a Dell offer page. If the store profile block content for dell.com has not been generated, it will be created — which will include the afflink text. Now a normal user comes in retrieving the cached version, and sees the afflink there.

However if you are a logged in user, no afflink will be added even if cached version contains the visual indicator. I'll take a look and get it resolved.

That is where i noticed it.

Seems it is just a server thing however i thought it would be worth mentioning as I remember how much controversy there was then affiliate links were originally added.

        • +1

No problem. It has been fixed. Logged-in users were using cached store profile block from guest users, thus the visual hint was shown.
