Buying Products over AU $1000 Online, Any Experience?

Greetings OzBargainers, is there anyone who has experience on buying products online from banggood/gearbest/geekbuying/else over 1000AUD like laptop or phone?
I'm planning to buy a laptop from banggood.com since i can't find one that I want in Australia, and I wonder how difficult is the import process, is it worth the effort or money for GST, and can I process it by myself without any agent or broker since I'm just a foreigner with temporary working visa in Australia?

Thank you, cheers!

  • If you're going ahead, be prepared and expect no warranty/after-sales service for any problem that may arise.

For the order valus over AU$,1000 - Couriers like Fedex or DHL handles the Australian Custom Clearance Service at a fee plus any GST, Duty and Custom Clearance fee for Custom Clearance.

    • Yes, I am aware with no after sales services, it is fine by me.

They only provide 1 shipping method, EMS Express Mail Service from China and HK warehouse to Australia, do you have any information regarding EMS?

      • From experience, EMS is not bad, decently fast, give it a 5-7 business days.

make sure you check the keyboard layout. Also check the power supply adapter. What is the voltage? what wall socket?

        • everything is checked, the only problem is I don't know how is the custom clearance procedure in Australia. Can EMS handle all the custom clearance?

          • @sml: I'm pretty sure that EMS don't handle that. If your package gets stopped for GST, then you'll get a call from the customs office asking for GST payments but not all parcels are inspected

  • From memory when it arrives in the country, customs would give you a call and ask you to pay the duties/GST via credit card over the phone.
Not sure if this is still the case now that GST is already included now

    • thank you, the thing is when I tried to pay the product, there is no GST amount in the price breakdown, it shows AU$0.00, and I have also tried to pay a different product below AU$1000 and it did show the amount of GST in the breakdown. So I guess banggood doesn't include the GST for products above AU$1000 and the rest will be customer responsibility.

"For goods with a value over AUD1000, you will need to fill out an Import Declaration, and pay duties, taxes and charges at the border."

You will have to pay fees when it gets to the border.
