Connecting 2 separate monitors to a Laptop

Hi

I want to add 2 separate monitors ( VW193T) to my laptop ( hp pavillion dv6).

I'm assuming i need adapter or adapters to get this done and also have to check my laptop has the capacity.

Happy to be pointed in the right direction or recommend best adapters or methods to do this

Thanks for your help.

  • VW193T has a D-Sub / VGA input and a DVI input, whereas from the look of it your laptop has a VGA and HDMI output. So

    • Connect to one monitor using a VGA cable.
    • Connect to another monitor using DVI to HDMI cable. For example on Amazon.
  • Two of the same screen repeated?

    • No, want the monitors to act as dual screens, multi display.

I'm currently using my laptop and my 1 monitor however screening between the monitor and laptop due to the screen size is quite annoying.

I can't actual put the vga cable and hdmi at the same time,

    • Couldn't you just buy a VGA cable that has a smaller connector? That one is so large because you can also screw it in.
EDIT: Apparently no one sells it without the screws. You might be able to cut them off.

    • That spacing is a bad sign. With HDMI cables available cheaply, you might have to cut the side of the HDMI cable connector to even test if the monitors are detected separately. It's a bit hackish :( but personally I would try it.

      • It would be a really close cut if you trim the HDMI cable. Wouldn't it better to do the VGA since it will only affect the screw which you don't need.

        • My thinking is the HDMI connector would probably be just plastic in the overlap where the VGA will have some metal. I don't think either have crucial wires in the overlap area, so whatever is easiest.

OKay so cutting the cable worked.

However my second monitor is not working

    So either

    1) laptop with VGA to 1 monitor
    2) latop with hdi—> hdi vga adapter—

If you look at first pic all the cables are in however not recognising the 2nd screen( being monitor connected by hdmi to vga adapter)

    • Three displays looks promising :)

  • You can try by using VGA cable for one and DVI to HDMI cable for the other, But I am not sure whether laptop can support the both monitors and builtin screen at the same time
