  • No reviews yet, but the screen is resistive — generally a fail in my regard, since even the $99 Huawei Ideos U8150 has a capacitive touchscreen and Android 2.2 to boot.

    • thanks for that but can you dumb it down a bit, lol.

      • There are 2 types of touchscreens, capacitive and resistive.

Capacitive is better (and more expensive to produce) compared to a resistive touchscreen.
It supports multi-touch — you can use more than 1 finger to interact with the screen, such as pinch to zoom, or multi-touch swiping gestures.

Resistive touchscreens work by having 2 sheets of plastic very close to each other. When you press down on the screen, the plastic sheets contact each other and this is registered as a touch.
The downside of resistive screens is that they generally only accept 1 finger input — the upside however is that they can use a stylus for handwriting. But you don't see styluses on smartphones nowadays as many people prefer to operate their phone one-handed.

        • Thanks for that, maybe I will wait to see what else comes out. I'm not in any hurry.

        • except the 8150 does not accept multitouch anyway.

  • yep, resistive is not good

  • The Samsung Galaxy 5 can be had on Telstra Prepaid $179 including $50 credit…
It ticks all the boxes for a low end Android Handset.

If you're not in any hurry, wait another 4-6 months… High end handsets will be in runout, probably not at $99, but conceiveably at $199

  • I wonder which company makes this phone?
