Flybuys 'free' item

Wondering if anyone else gets sent free items from flybuys yet 9 times out of 10 the item is out of stock in store? It feels a little 'scam-ish' to me.

  • Yes

  • Maybe just supply and demand - lots of people get the offer and take the item.

There were plenty of Spice Tailor butter chicken packs when I went to redeem mine.

Just like the gift cards with bonus points. The ones "use anywhere" ones like prepaid Visa/MC are NEVER in stock when the promotion is on. The second the promotion is over, amazingly there are hundreds of the things.

Yes its very fishy with the gift cards. Ive been at coles at 7am on wednesday as soon as the promotion begins and there is zero of the $50 cards in stock. Of course there are usually some of the $100 ones around which obviously arent as good value

      • I wonder if you can take some the day before and then take them back to activate? They have no value without being activated….just a thought

OK. And the rest of the time you think you're coming out ahead instead of losing by using this spending incentive and data collection program?

    • Depends how you use it - I only buy what I would have bought anyway, I dont buy extra things in order to get points.

But If Im in store anyway I would obviously pick up the free item if its something I can use. I was just curious whether other people were finding the same with the 'free' item never being in stock.

I've received something like $300 credit this year in $50 increments from Coles via flybuys. They can collect whatever they want from me if they want to give me free money.

Anything else like points or free products is just icing on top.

      • I definately dont get that much back. Is that just groceries or other things? I do get a $20 here and there.
But I dont shop exclusively at coles.

Every 5 weeks I get an offer to get $50 credit if I spend $x in store 4 weeks in a row.

Not hard to pool together a few days shopping into one shop.

          • @samfisher5986: Ah right gotcha. Thats a good deal if you are regularly spending $80 in one shop.

            • @Allwentmarching: Anyone can do it, not hard to use $80 worth of groceries in a week, thats $11 per day.

The amount you have to spend varies though.

              • @samfisher5986: Yeah for sure, I just dont always shop at coles every week, I vary between supermarkets. Its good if you use coles for sure.

  • Yep,
Same thing happened again this week.
But mysteriously the day after the promo ran out the shelves were full again.
