Possibly bad petrol what to do?

Hi guys, got an issue and wanted some advice. I refueled my car with petrol from a seven eleven store in North Rocks with 98. About 20min later my car stops working and i called nrma who came out and towed me and said it was most likely the fuel i got. Im 100% sure i put in the right fuel. I dont have a receipt but used the 711 lock it in app and also paid with my card. Waiting for the car to be looked at tomorrow by a mechanic. Wondering what i should do?

Cheers

Bring a Jerry can a fill it at the same pump? Perhaps film it and mark the can so it can be somehow demonstrated (yes it can be tempered and isn't hard evidence) that you did retrieve a sample.

Send some for fuel testing and report back.

    Part out.

The mechanic should inspect the fuel and drain it if there's a problem. Ask him to keep a sample for you as evidence.

It's unlikely that you refuelled with Diesel since AFAIK the nozzle is larger and won't fit in your filler. Perhaps there was water or some other contaminant in the 98 tank.

  • They are well known for high ethanol levels. Might be worth stating your car model and year.

      my car stops working

ok, how did it stop working?

  • Before you go blaming the fuel…do you by chance drive a Holden?

    • A bit harsh. My 04 vz runs like a clock.

      • Nice. Also running an '04 VZ. Just passed the 80k mark.

  • Call the servo and ask them if they have had reports of bad fuel from customers.
I would bet it is nothing to do with fuel..

    • Im sure the servo will be forthcoming with information that will likely result in them losing money.

Had similar thing happened to me a few months ago where it was practically 50% water. My fuel was drained and I took a sample. Also took it to facebook because the petrol station denied everything yet later that night the bowsers were all out of order. They paid damages and later admitted that 7 other cars were affected. Get a receipt from the mechanic stating it was bad fuel and they should pay. Mine was with caltex though.

    • Wow can't believe this shit happens!

      • It's the first time it's happened to me but it happened to one of my friends at a 7/11 as well. She ended up taking them to court. I only wanted my repairs paid for which was $700. They agreed if I took the post off facebook.

  • Was your tank light on when you refuelled? If it was and you state 20 min later your car turns off. Most likely it's something else.

Always make sure you get a receipt!! Receipts are critical in these situations, they show the grade, pump number and time which cannot be disputed.

Fuel with high water content can cause this to happen or if they've dumped Diesel into the wrong tank. 'Bad' fuel or slightly off spec fuel wont cause a breakdown only water or a mix will. Keep all of your mechanic reports and make sure the keep a fuel sample from your tank if it shows to have water. Once confirmed from the mechanic raise it with the Petrol Station to see if there are any other complaints from the same grade / pump and raise it directly with 7/11. They may dismiss you at first but keep making noise, facebook, twitter, etc etc to get their attention.

If you go back to site and find the pumps are tagged out of order, all the more reason to keep pushing.

      This!

The problem these days, is that majority of retail outlets want to save every little single penny, including not using printed paper.

However when there is as dispute, there is no form of evidence.
Even when using an electronic transaction like CC and the like, there may be a form of transaction but it wont be a detailed description of purchase. You can try to map of the price of product purchased etc however it will be require more effort to map/prove.

I always keep my receipt and then after a few months, throw it away (obviously like petrol, shopping and the like and nothing relating to warranty)

      Cheers

  • If it was tainted petrol many more cars would be affected, perhaps you used the wrong pump.

  • Talk with insurance, probably water in fuel. Servo damaged your car they will have to pay.

  • if it is water in the fuel tank, add a bottle of metho to the tank with full tank of fuel

    What does OBDII diagnosis say?

What is the year & make of the car?

Does it use diesel or petrol?

When was the last time it was tuned?

Doesn't sound like a fuel problem at all
