Booked Flight in Opposite Order

Hi guys,

I saw an Air Asia sale earlier this week on ozbargain and i quickly decided to buy 3 tickets for Sydney to Kuala Lumpur in July 2019. I was excited as the dates i got aligned with my mum's birthday.

I ended up going through checkout and then realised i first did Kuala Lumpur to Sydney and then Return from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur.

I have tried talking on their online chat and they basically gave me no options to help and change dates.

Just wanted your opinions/suggestions on what i can do in this case ?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, check the T&Cs of your tickets, but almost all super-discounted airfares are non-refundable, non-changeable.

If the date isn't too far off, you might still be able to use one set of tickets?

    It's Air Asia.
    So you already know.

At least you won't make that mistake again.

Blessing in disguise. Don't travel Air Asia.

You can get the airport taxes back if you don't fly (this is not a huge amount though)

You have to wait until the flight departs, and put in a request, and in my experience follow up with customer service a couple of times because they will take weeks to get around to it.

Here is something about it https://support.airasia.com/s/article/If-I-do-not-wish-to-fl…

    • 100% correct. You will probably get about $60 back per leg, and so that will ease the pain! a big portion of sale fares is fees and taxes.
What I would do if I were the OP:-
      1. Book an earlier date one-way flight Syd- Kul.
      2. Then use your current Kul-Syd booking to get back to Aust.
      3. Then claim a refund on Syd - Kul that you already have booked.
It changes your holiday dates, but you won't lose many $'s

Also another tip re AirAsia. I always book each leg individually. It may also cost a few dollars less, but mainly it gives more flexibility.

I did that exact same mistake once. It feels pretty dumb.

I asked my airline to swap the dates but they treat this as two cancellations with all the requisite fee's and T&C's.
Because I noticed my mistake immediately and called them straight away, my airline (Virgin Australia) gave me full credit and waived any fees and I rebooked the correct flights.

I would try to call them directly and explain the situation. Bear in mind that Air Asia is a no-frills budget carrier.

    • Virgin Australia has a 24hr policy on errors, but AirAsia doesn't :)

Is it possible to change your KL to Sydney flight and then just book a one way Syd to KL? More money but might be better than just forfeiting the ticket

  • Whoops

  • What did they say when you called them OP?

This guy who said his name was Tony just said thanks for the money.

  • I've never booked with Air Asia before, but when you selected a KUL <> SYD return ticket, doesn't the displayed price change from AUD to MYR?

Admittedly, I've done it a couple of times before on other airlines (usually on a mobile device) and it's the different currency that's alerted me to the fact (before I've paid).

  • Give the ti kets to your mum and she can visit you

    • You can't change the names, and also there are 3 tickets.

  • Not sure if anyone has suggested it but… can u claim it on travel insurance?

I know its a long shot not to mention probably illegal but i daresay it may be the only way to recoup your money. It would boil down to how significant the money is to you.

  • Airasia is great for cheap flights (once paid $70 from SYD - KL) but not when you need to make changes. Chalk it up as a lesson learnt and always pay extra attention when booking with them in future.

  • airasia = red flag
