Cheapest way is tent, mattress and sleeping bags.
Better way is swag which you only unroll at night time to sleep.
If you're near town just take an esky, bowls, spoons, milk and cereal. You can eat in town for dinner and lunch.

    • Question is too broad - might as well ask how long the piece of string is. Vehicle, crowded, remote, water, facilities, camp cooking etc?

Less is better. Forget sleeping bags - doona or blanket. Get your cooking gear from vinnies and use a 3l coffee can or catering can with wire handle for a billy.

Depends on the facilities of where you're staying. On the basics you'll tent a tent, sleeping gear and a light. Other things you might need/want table, chairs, esky/food storage, stove/pots/pans/kettle, plates and cutlery, dishwashing gear, another shelter for sitting under during the day, solar power, water.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but others should add more.

    • Thanks! where for gears?

Wife'd really love a tent with roof features to see sky/stars.

      • Camping stores, Kmart are good for basic stuff, but your tent needs to be half decent if you plan on using it more than once so look for specials at major stores.

      too cold at night

      • Find others for shared body heat.

    • Now that's what I call stripping down to the bare essentials
