just a heads up if you are wondering this headset is the direct upgrade over the cloud II's. they are the newer model released mid last year.

    • +3

And it comes with fully replacable leads. The Cloud IIs were hardwired into the cup.

      • +1

And it comes with fully replacable leads

The mic is also replaceable, good value

    • USB or 3.5mm?

    • +1

Bear in mind the Cloud 2 comes with a USB DAC/Amp whereas the Alphas don’t.

      • Alphas still sound better, tried them both but ended up paying more for alpha because of the sound and much better earpads (this one is personal preference I guess but they're more comfy for me)

  • +2

I have this headset. It's awesome. Gonna grab another.

    • I'm looking at the RIG500s or even RIG800s. Are these better?? For PC and PS4.

      • +1

These are much superior, cant go wrong. can disconnect and replace cords so easily. for 80$ its a steal.

  • +3

oh wtf, i was going to buy one for a Christmas Prezzie for my brother, but now i should just buy 2, one for me too!

  • -1

this would be 50% off the normal price, lowest price ever …… why do i get a feeling either it ain’t going to happen or if it does will be sold out in minutes ….twitter feed from disgruntled employee ?

i will save coins and hope and wait.

wanted the alphas for a while now.

    • i guess you missed out on last years massive black friday hyperx sale the cloud II's went from $140 to $65-70 it was crazy sold out in few hours they had enough stock the next day though :)

    • +2

You got downvoted but you were the only soul in here who was right.

  • Thanks bookmarked. Will probably get an email from JB anyway. Cheers

  • just a update i think other stores will also have this price not sure yet but will update i can confirm though that most pc stores are having hyper x sales in general 35-50% off

  • alpha headset, new keyboard, might be the best deal of the year ……guess ram won’t be discounted, not that jb sell ram but other stores sell hyper x ram.

  • bought these for 140 a fortnight ago 😑😑😑

  • Gee, got No. 1 son the Cloud II's for Christmas, was going to get another pair for myself (was going to try and use receipt from the bargain two weeks ago and see if they'd match) - I guess I'm getting these now….

    • +1

Well now you could get them for your No. 2 son, too.

  • I bought these for twice the price when they were brand new in Australia :(
    Absolute bargain.

    • Have you tried getting them? What's the claim proccess?

      • +1

You contact their chat support, provide the proof of purchase and details on inside of the left band, and they'll send them for free. They'll arrive in about 2-3 weeks. I find them better than the original earpads.

        • would buying mine in an ebay auction brand new suffice as proof of purchase?

        • Could you explain this process a bit more please? Do you have a link to their chat support or something? Thanks.

  • +1

Wouldn’t the cloud ii’s be better cause of the amp

    • nope this is the direct upgrade of the cloud iis click on the tweet and hyper x explains the new technology they added in to the alphas.

      • also search some reviews the alphas have better sound quality.

      • Yeah I remember reading they were improved but you’re sacrificing the surround sound. I guess they are good for PC where you can emulate the surround but for console the ii’s would be better

    • +2

Subjectively the alpha is better, bot objectively, some people prefer the cloud ii's

      • yes that is correct in all depends on preference i personally would recommend everyone to go with the alphas the new technology is amazing but some people haven't researched about it yet so that's why they are confused.

      • I've had both, the cloud IIs are better built with objectively better sound quality, and the removable cable is great because the cable on my cloud IIs broke.

The only thing you give up is 7.1 surround sound.

        • You mean the alpha. Cloud II doesn't have detachable cable. Think you got them mixed up there.

          • @Ostrk: Ah shoot, I wasn't thinking when typing. My cloud II's are broken and I use the alpha now, which is a much better headset.

        • the alphas are actually proven better the own company themselves say its better then the cloud iis and all the youtube videos says the alphas are better they have dual chambers which is better then the cloud iis sound quality

  • How important is surround sound? RIGs have it and the Cloud IIs had it but these dont.

First gaming headset purchase on black Friday:)

    • You might want it if you play competitive counter strike, but I've had both the cloud IIs and the alpha and I don't miss it.

    • +7

It's a gimmick. Don't bother with it. Unless it's done by hardware with actual multiple drivers in the headphones I would never consider even thinking about it.

      • I find that depending on the game and sound processor, VSS does provide better spatial immersion than stereo though. I’ve tested stereo, Dolby (Mixamp/DSS2), Atmos, and Sonic on Xbox and I keep coming back to the Dolby processed sound from the Mixamp or DSS2.

    • Thanks for the reply. Apparently you can buy Dolby Atmos for the Alphas which is good enough :)

    • I'm on Xbox and pair my Alpha with a Turtle Beach DSS2 (along with Y splitters and a Turtle Beach headset adapter on the controller for mic monitoring, chat audio and mute button). The chat audio is fed into the AUX port on the DSS2. I'm really happy with the sound after looking for a solution for a little while. I'm not a full blown audiophile but more of an audio snob.

The surround sound is actually quite good and in my opinion provides better spatial awareness with a just a tiny reduction in audio quality over stereo.

If you just use the audio coming from the Xbox controller, it is compressed and not as good as an optical DAC/Amp like the DSS2 or Astro Mixamp Pro (earlier generations of the Mixamp are best since the latest TR generations have a metallic reverb). Strangely enough, I find the Dolby digital processed sound on the DSS2 or the Mixamp better than the Atmos of Sonic processed sound from the Xbox (ie, ticking the box for Atmos/Sonic sound to be sent via optical and turning off surround processing on DSS2 or Mixamp)

Final note, the Alphas are 60 Ohms so some might find the controller does have enough oomph to drive them at loud to very loud volumes if that's your preference.

    • +1

      How important is surround sound?

Crucial in competitive games such as FPS.

However it's not surround sound, it's virtual surround which means stereo headphones using software processing (algorithm). Any stereo headphones can do
virtual surround sound but it's best to use ones with large soundstages (the speakers sound far away from your ears).

Virtual surround algorithm depends on the shape of users ears to create the effect. This means that out of the tens (or hundreds?) of algorithms typically some will not work for a given user (which means many people think it's bullshit :D ).

You can use many of them for free and find one that works best for your ears: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/6rtbcb/guide_ev…

Windows comes with Windows Sonic and a trial for Dolby Atmos for Headphones which seems to work very well for many people. Dolby Atmos for Headphone is easily the best one I've tried.

(There is such a thing a "true" surround headphones that actually have a speaker for each channel like home theatre setup. I have no experience with these but pros seem to use virtual surround and considering the crucial role that sound plays in games such as FPS I think that means virtual surround is better.

RIGs have it and the Cloud IIs had it but these dont.

As pointed out you can use any algo (if you can find it) with any headphones and some algos typically won't work because of your ear shape. Soundcards and headphones will often come with 1 algo such as SBX (Creative) or Dolby Headphone (Asus) and I think from memory RIGS are DTS:X but I could be wrong.

      • +1

I thought most pros just use stereo?

      • Think I might just get the alphas and try atmos.

        Thanks for the informative replies.

I am a casual gamer and stereo should be fine. PS4 doesnt support atmos or virtual surround anyway.

      • +1

"Windows comes with Windows Sonic and a trial for Dolby Atmos for Headphones which seems to work very well for many people."

Same on Xbox. Sonic is very good (and free), but Atmos is awesome. I paid the licence fee for it. I think it was around $12 for life.

        • FWIW, I find the surround processing on a Mixamp or a DSS2 better along with better sound quality compared to Atmos from the controller audio.

          • @ShortyX: It's the ear shape thing again presumably, the algo that Mixamp uses works better for your ears than Dolby Atmos.

            • @Diji1: 👍🏻 Our brains are all different. 😀

  • Sounds like snake oil

  • Literally just bought these this week. Paid full price. What’s JBs return policy?

    • If they are in absolute perfect condition then head down to the store and try to return them. If they are worn they won't do it unless they're faulty. Just head down and see what happens. I think it will depend more on the store and the staff working at the store.

      • I’ve worn them twice. Guess I’m stuck with them at the higher price. Bugger.

        • I'm just speaking on personal experience. Like I said, it highly depends on the staff there. If you have worn them only twice then I highly recommend heading down and trying it.

        • If they don’t look worn. How are they to know?

          • +2

@stickymoo: Maybe his ears are fountains of wax?

            • +1

@Jackson: Sounds like a band name. Did they sing ‘Stacy’s mom’?

        • You can buy the new one and and return it with the first receipt. As long as the product is new and sealed, you can return it. You bought the first one this week, so it is not more than 31 days, no problem as all.

    • I could be completely wrong but I do remember seeing JB say something along the lines of price protection or something? They'd refund you the difference.

Alternatively if your bank card has the price protection thing then you could go through that way.

  • damn tho these were the flight, HOping the wireless flight would go on sale end of the year!

    • +1

JB Hi-Hi will have 35%-50% OFF Cloud Flight and more from Nov 23-26.

      • not sure how u know but okay will check it out

        • +1

It's part of the tweets from HyperX linked in the main post :)

          • +2

@WorkingLowJam: that is correct i will update the oz bargain with the price closer to the date i just wanted to post the alphas now because its a cracker deal. just deduct 35% of whatever the flights are worth now at jbhifi and that will be the price also mwave/msy/ple etc most pc stores will have similar hyper x sales but these stores will have it on the following products https://twitter.com/HyperXAnz/status/1063280709325021184:)

  • Any recommendation for headsets <$50? Need one for a Christmas present for the nephew

    • Can you increase the budget to about $60 for HyperX Cloud Stinger when on sale? But honestly, the Alphas at $80 are a steal considering they’re normally $170. If it’s a tight budget, the Turtle Beach 50X might be ok.

      • turtle beaches barely last these days, i wouldn't go for one of them

  • 2000 clicks for a deal that isn't active. I hope JB will have enough stock

  • These any good for movies/music?

    • +2

Yes. The microphone is removeable, and the sound is so good for movies. I'm not a big music listener, but when I hear music in a video game I am really impressed. Blows away all my turtlebeach and astro headsets.

And comfort… most comfy headset i have ever used.

      • How would they compare audio quality wise to the more popular and much more expensive Sony and bose headsets? Bluetooth is something I dont need and noise cancelling while ok is not critical for me (for musuc that is). Reason is I dont game enough to buy a headset just for that purpose, and dont want to spend 300 in the aforementioned brands

        • +1

Sorry I haven’t tried them. I'm only familiar with Astros, Turtlebeach and HyperX headsets. I've own and compared most of their models for gaming.

But I would add, I have never really liked music in video games, but using these Alphas, the music is so clear and balanced. I am really noticing and enjoying the soundtracks now.

I would call this the 'jack of all trades' headset. Build quality is top notch, too. You wouldn't be disappointed at $84.

          • +1

@Ge3ks: You could do some comparisons on rtings. For this price, the Alphas are amazing value and stack up well against the more expensive brands in the critical listening criteria.

  • +1

I won a pair of these and they are great. This is a good price

  • Really really good headset.. can't fault them at all in terms of audio and comfort.

Pricing wise, that's an very good BARGAIN.. I bought mine 5 months ago at $128 when they were having a deal on gaming stuff. The $45 savings is bringing tears to my eyes. :p

  • How is the audio when plugged into the ps4 controller? Loud enough? Enough bass? Etc.?

  • Are these high impedance? Would they sound better with an amp, than just plugged into a sound card / phone etc?

    • +1

60 Ohms so low enough to be driven by phone or console controller.

  • +1

Have the Cloud 2 and they sound better for gaming than my astro a50s on my xbox.

If these sound similar then def worth getting!

  • Are these better than the Corsairs hs50? They don't seem dissimilar despite the normal price difference.

    • bruh the cloud ii's and alpha is 100 times better than the corsair hs50s lol just search some reviews.+

  • -1

Given I bought a pair from JB for full price about a week ago, if I bought these and then a day or 2 later, returned them unopened with the older full priced receipt would that be possible? So as to effectively get this price? (Assuming sufficient availability)

    • idk tbh worth a try should work

      • -1

I think so too. Only issue would be if each product scans differently.

  • +1

Only available in 4 stores in Australia, also delivery not available, kind of a deal breaker/not a deal that is accessible to most.

    • I am seeing plenty of stock at JBs near me?

    • +2

theres heaps of stock around me and jbhifi wont be the only store having very similar deals hyperx has confirmed all major pc stores/video game stores will be having similar sales

      • +1

Phew, thought I was gonna miss out on the deal of a life time by living in Adelaide! YIKES!

      • None in the Gold Coast or Brisbane. Closest being Sunshine Coast. Maybe stock might be replenished/ distributed evenly before the sale.
