Suggestions for Good Smart Lock/Doors?

Hey all,

Just looking to see if any recommendations re Smart Locks/Doors.

My only requirements are easy pin/fingerprint entrance. Ideally would like to work with Google Home/ another app remotely budget of $500 + install.

Looking online a few at Bunnings, don't mind the Samsung ones but mixed reviews.

Any suggestions appreciated!

My only negative review on the Samsung - they claim that alkaline batteries need to be changed every 6-12months. It's been 20 months.

We have one of the older Samsung ones and it is really good. It has PIN pad and card reader, and works with our MYKI cards. It is a PITA to program because you need to do it from the lock itself rather than connecting a USB key, PC etc. Ours doesn't do remote connectivity like bluetooth, internet, etc but I'm a bit wary about hacking with these anyeay. The one thing is doesn't have, which is a feature I would like, is a physical over ride key. If the batteries fail then we can put a battery on external terminals and repower the lock - however, if the lock electronics fails completely we won't be able to open the door from the outside.

    • Doesn't it have keys for manual override?

      • Not the one we currently have. There are ones that do but the new ones don’t seem to work with the Myki cards.

        • I see. I'd be too nervous to use one without a mechanical failsafe.

        • Out of interest if the battery is flat or it fails, how do you get into your house??

          • @Randxyz123: through the garage?

            • @grrrr: If the battery is flat then we can put a separate battery against the external terminals to get enough power to let ourselves in. If it breaks then the garage access is our only option. We have a connecting door from the garage to the house. But we have been looking at getting a replacement lock because of that. The only problem is the later ones don't allow you to use MYKI and that is a nice thing to have - we don't have to carry a new card.

@Randxyz123: Thanks for the reminder I keep meaning to put a battery away outside for that eventuality, it does give you plenty of warning though, we stopped using the card and just bump it and enter a pin, If we have family or friends come over we can use a temp pin so they can get in if were running late

It is keyed as well so can deadlock it with a mechanical key too I have a spare set of keys at work which is 2 mins away and I've got 24 hour access to that. So there is always a set not far away if needed.

Ours had to be fire rated so it cost a but more than I'd have like to pay but now i don't need to carry anything except my phone and the car keys if I need it.

Reduced the size of my wife's handbag requirements too so it paid for itself

Battery, flip cover from face plate, touch a 9 volt battery to the terminals and done

  • There is the advantage that when you change house cleaners you can just remove them from the system, you don’t have to change the lock.

  • Did you end up getting one?
