Selling a Car for Someone, Car Has an Unpaid Fine. Help

so i'm selling a car on behalf of an ex-girlfriend. but it has an unpaid fine (just received the notice), she's now back in overseas. so my question is, what would happen to the fine? would the rego be transferred to new owner without the fine? i dont want the new owner to bear the cost of the fine. oh yea its tassie rego.

the fine will stay in your sisters name as the registered owner of the vehicle at the time of the infringement

Next you will say your from Incestaun?

        • dammit how do u now? lol

  • Why don't you pay the fine and your ex can pay you back?

        Thats what they all say.

Pay the fine, subtract it from the cash given to you from the person buying the car? Seems simple enough

Nah… better check with an OzBargain post first, maybe there's a cheaper alternative ; )

If you have the fine just go to the rego authority and pay it with the money from the sale of the car. Deduct that and your cut for the sale of the car with interest for the Hassel of both.

  • good advice. thanks guys.

Increase the (the lower limit during negotiation) price of the car by the fine amount. Then pay off the fine with the extra funds.

Win for you and the ex and the buyer would be none the wiser. He/she would still be happy with their new purchase!
